‘Enough funds for National Games’

There is no funds shortage for the forthcoming National Games scheduled to start from November 19 at six different venues of the state and Chandigarh. Mr Sudhir Mittal, Chairman, Finance Committee for National Games, gave this information to the mediapersons after the meeting of the panel here last night.

Mr Mittal informed that the Finance Committee for the games had already allocated Rs 6 crore for the regional committees formed at six centres including Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, SAS Nagar, Anandpur Sahib and Chandigarh. This amount would be utilised to meet the expenses incurred on boarding, lodging, transport, hostel repairs, catering and on reception of participants of this mega event. The regional committees would get this amount in the first week of this month, he said.

Mr S.K. Sandhu and Mr K Siva Prasad, Deputy Commissioners of Ludhiana and Jalandhar, respectively, Mr S R Kaler, ADC, Ludhiana, Mr P.S. Virk, Treasurer, Punjab Olympic Association, and Mr Kuldeep Singh, SDM, were among those who attended the meeting.

Kabaddi meet

Government High School, Khanpur, emerged champions in the Ludhiana District High Schools Kabaddi Tournament held at Gill village. In the final, Khanpur school defeated Khanna Zone by 65-41 to bag the title.

Earlier, in the league matches, Government High School, Khanpur, crushed Raikot Zone at 62-27, Ludhiana Zone at 51-22 and Sahnewal Zone at 59-29. In the semi final, they defeated Ludhiana Zone II at 58-25.

Meanwhile, one student of this school, Jaspal Singh, has been selected to represent the state in the National Kabaddi Meet and four other students, Ramandeep Singh, Rajinder Singh, Kranti Vir and Gurdeep Singh, have picked up as members of the district team for the state championship.

TT championship

The College of Agricultural Engineering and College of Home Science clinched team championship in the men’s and women’s sections, respectively, in the Punjab Agricultural University Inter-Colleges Table Tennis Championship held at the Prithipal Singh Complex on the PAU campus today. The matches were played on the league basis.

Cricket meet

Baba Ishar Singh Senior Secondary School was declared winner on the basis of losing less number of wickets as their match with Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, ended in a tie after the stipulated 20 overs in the Inter-school Cricket Tournament being held under the Dainik Jagran Utsav-2001 at Government Model Senior Secondary School on PAU ground here today.

Batting first, Baba Ishar Singh Senior Secondary School made 128 for 6 in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, Sacred Heart Convent School scored 128 runs after losing 8 wickets in their quota of 20 overs.
