4 die in LeT attack on Army camp
23 militants shot dead in encounters

Four Army personnel were killed and two others injured when Lashkar-e-Toiba militants made a suicide attack on their camp near Dialgam in Anantnag district last night even as the security forces killed 23 militants in separate encounters in the valley. One of them was killed this morning after a night-long operation, while two others managed to escape. Elsewhere eight persons including six militants, were killed in separate incidents in the Kashmir valley since yesterday.

The police here said that militants fired rockets and grenades on a security forces camp in Dialgam late last night. “In the cover of fire a militant managed to enter the campus and was killed this morning,” he said.

A defence spokesman said four Army personnel were killed and two others injured in the incident. He said that a group of three militants tried to enter the camp of 36 RR at Dialgam at about 9 p.m. last night. While two militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness, one Lashkar-e-Toiba militant was killed this morning.

The biggest success the security forces achieved was in Poonch district where 18 hardcore militants were eliminated, 12 in Sultanpathri and six in Gali Pindi areas.

The police said that on receipt of information, joint operations were launched at Sultanpathri and Gali Pindi areas and smashed the rebel hideouts. The security forces came under heavy fire which was effectively retaliated, killing 18 militants on the spot. Large quantities of arms and ammunition were seized from the slain militants.

Meanwhile, three unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces and SOG of the Jammu and Kashmir police in Tangmarg area of Baramula district yesterday.

Two unidentified militants were killed by the Army in the Zachaldara forest of Kupwara district, the defence spokesman here said.

One militant of the Hizbul Mujahideen, Dildar Ahmad Shah, was killed in the encounter with the security forces at Koimoh, Kulgam in Anantnag district yesterday.

Unidentified gunmen shot dead Nazir Ahmad Bhat at Dadsar, Tral in Pulwama district, the police here said.

A jawan was killed in an encounter with militants at Niram village in Udhampur district last night. A civilian was also killed in the shootout.

The ultras fired at security forces at Taranah nullah near Dayalechok in Kathua district last night and in the retaliatory action, one militant was killed.

Two militants were gunned down by security forces during an encounter in the Gandoh area of Doda district while three unidentified militants were killed during search operations at Ratnipora on the Srinagar-Gulmarg road today.

The security forces shot dead a militant in the Mukhiari area and another in Brari area in the Poonch district last evening.

Security forces killed a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant at Chityari village in the Chingus area while another ultra was shot dead at Chaktrat village in Udhampur district.Back
