10 militants killed

A woman and 10 militants, one of them a platoon commander of the Hizb-ul Mujahideen, were killed and eight others, including three security force personnel, were injured in separate militancy-related incidents in the valley since yesterday.

A police spokesman said a woman was killed and five pedestrians and two security force personnel were injured when militants hurled a grenade towards a picket of the security forces at Nowhatta here this morning. The grenade missed the target and exploded on the road causing injuries to six civilians and two BSF personnel. One woman later succumbed to her injuries.

Three unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Chak-i-Saloosa in the Kriri area of Baramula district in north Kashmir today. An Army officer was injured in an exchange of fire, the police said. Three AK rifles were recovered from the site of the encounter. The area was being searched till the last reports came in.

Three militants of the Hizb-ul Mujahideen were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Trumgund, Hygam, in Baramula district yesterday. They were identified as Mohammad Akbar code Zahid, Majeed Geefa code Safdar and Mohammad Yusuf. Three AK rifles, a wireless set, an UBGI, and five hand grenades were recovered from the slain militants.

Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Amargarh, Sopore, in Baramula district yesterday. The police claimed that Abdul Rashid Wani, platoon commander of the Hizb-ul Mujahideen, was killed in an encounter with a joint operations group of the Army and the SOG of the Jammu and Kashmir police at Mansir near Sopore in Baramula. The security forces killed a militant in an encounter at Panjani village in the Balakote sector late last night. A boy, Abdul Wahid, died in a shootout between the militants and a joint party of the special operation group and the security forces at Puneja Bhaderwah last evening.
