Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, November 10
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to pay Rs 2,000 in compensation on account of deficiency in services to Mr Rajesh Seghal of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.

According to complaint, Mr Rajesh Seghal had applied for the shifting of his telephone (498031) to his residence at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, in December 1999. Representative of the consumer, Mr S.D. Nagpal, said Mr Seghal had been approaching BSNL officials for shifting the telephone since December, 1999, but no action was taken. Mr Nagpal said the Commercial Section of the BSNL had issued a letter to SDOT concerned on February 22, 2001 to submit the genuineness and feasibility report for shifting the telephone, but nothing came out of that. Mr Nagpal said that was a clear deficiency in services on part of the BSNL as it took so much time to do such a minor job.

The BSNL pleaded that the telephone connection of the complainant, had already been shifted to new the address of the complainant on April 30 with the new telephone number 816239. The respondent stated that the commercial section had issued advice note on April 4, for shifting the said telephone connection which was received by the SDO on April 21, and the same was sent to JTO, Ludhiana, on April 27. The BSNL further stated that the telephone was changed on April 30, 2001. The respondent said that there was no deficiency in services as the telephone connection was provided at the new address of the complainant.
