Tips from Nasscom president

In a move to bridge the gap between the needs of the corporate world and the academics, the Delhi-based Management Education and Research Institute (MERI) today held its annual Information Technology seminar. Nasscom president Kiran Karnik, highlighting the achievement of the Indian software professional in the global market, expressed the need for convergence between the needs of the corporate sector and academics. Addressing ‘’APRENDEMOS’ 2001- Let’s Learn Technology in Business Web’’, here, Mr Karnik said: “It is a pleasure to see that the MERI is continuing with the trend.”

Stamp expo concludes

Gurgaon, November 9
The two-day exhibition on postage stamps, Gurgaon-Pex-2001, organised by district postal department at the Zila Sainik Board concluded here yesterday. More than 200 students from various renowned schools like DAV, Kendriya Vidayalya, DPS and Our Lady of Fatima participated in the exhibition. A workshop on stamp collection and a competition on stamp designing was held as part of the exhibition to popularise stamps among students.

329 cases settled in Lok Adalat

Gurgaon, November 10
As many as 329 cases were disposed of in the 74th Lok Adalat held here today on the premises of the district courts.

The proceedings, presided over by the Executive Chairman of the Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HSLSA) and Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Mr Justice V K Bali, continued for over
six hours.

The District and Sessions Judge, Mr Arvind Kumar Goyal, said that of the 329 cases settled today, 63 cases related to the Motor Accidental Claims Tribunal (MACT) in which total of Rs 64 lakh were paid as compensation to the aggrieved parties.

While four cases were under the Hindu Marriage Act, 13 others were criminal cases.

The rest (249) belonged to the category of summary cases (vehicle challans) in which sum of Rs 55,000 were procured as fines.

In the earlier Lok Adalat held, a total of 1,308 cases under the category of MACT were disposed of. In these cases, a sum of Rs 11.33 crore were paid as compensations.

Mr Arvind Kumar Goyal stated that after he took over, four Lok Adalats were held in which a sum of Rs 2.74 crore was paid to the victims as compensation money in 210 MACT cases.
