Nodal centre status for PGI

Chandigarh, November 11
The Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi, has decided to make the PGI its North of Delhi Nodal Centre for inputs on cancer research. The PGI will be one of the 20 such centres identified by the ICMR in the country for data inputs on cancer research in the country.

The department of Cytology, PGI, will be coordinating the collection of the data of cancer patients who visit the institute from north Indian states. The department will start collecting the data from January 2002.

Shivalik School boys triumph

Shivalik Public school, Sector 41, in boys (8-14 years) and Government Girls Senior Secondary school, Sector 20, among girls (8-12 years) secured first place each in the four-day Open Yoga Championship organised by the Chandigarh Amateur Yoga Association, which concluded here this evening at Government Yoga Centre, Sector 23.

The tournament was organised by Justice M.M Kumar, Punjab and Haryana High Court. In all 25 teams from various schools and colleges took part in the championship. As many as 36 individuals also took part.

Results : girls (8-12 yrs)—Government Girls Senior Secondary School-20, first; GMSSS-21, second; SPS-41, third. Individual: Rupanjit Kaur( SPS-41) first; Navdeep( GMSSS-21) second; Sonika( SPS-41) third.

Girls : 12-18 yrs:GGHS-25, first; SPS-41, second; GSSS-20, third.

Individual: Saroj Devi (GGHS-25) first; Chering Negi( SPS-41) second; Jaspreet (SPS-41) third. Girls:18-25 yrs: Govt College for Girls-11 first; MCM DAV-36 second; Dev Samaj-45 third. Individual: Poonam (MCM DAV-36) and Jyoti Yadav (GCG-11) first; Rajinder Kaur and Harpreet kaur (MCM-36) second; Pinki (GCG-11) third.

Women: 25-40 yrs: Individual: Ravinder, first; Ritu, second; Santosh Kumari, third.

Boys: 8-14 yrs: SPS-41, first; GGHS-25, second; GMSSS-21, third. Individual: Parshant (SPS-41) first; Kuldeep Singh and Pawan Kumar (GGH-25 and GMSSS-21) second; Hemant Kumar (GMSSS-21) and Nakul (SPS-41) third.

Boys:14-20 yrs; GGHS-25, first; SDC-32, second; YCM Public school, Panchkula, third. Individual: Munish Kumar first; Paras Arora second; Lalit Kumar third.

Individual: Kamal Grover first; Harish Kumar second; Sandeep Sharma third.

High Court XI beaten

 Bedi Cricket club outplayed High Court XI by 44 runs in the VIIth Jal Cup league cricket tournament played here today at DAV College grounds. In another match of the day, Khalsa cricket club got the better of Mohali Gymkhana XI by five wickets.

Cricket tourney

A deadly spell by Kamal Mehra who claimed four wickets for just 12 runs enabled Panther Cricket Club in beating Seventeen CC by eight runs in the fourth invitational league- cum-cricket tournament played here today at Army grounds.

Four parking lots inaugurated

Chandigarh, November 11
Four parking lots measuring about 1 lakh square foot in Sector 34, here, were thrown open to the public today. “Add on development” works have been started by the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB).

The CHB will be developing parking lots on about 2.70-lakh-square foot of land in the centre. This was stated in an official press note of the board. Parking space in the centre is expected to be doubled by December. Additional storm water gullies and parking area lights have been completed by the CHB.
