Anand is one of the greatest stars the Hindi film industry has seen. Handsome
and debonair, he was the epitome of the suave, urban gentleman. He was born
Devdutt Pishorimal Anand in Gurdaspur, Punjab, the middle son of a well-to-do
advocate. He graduated in English Literature from the Government College,
Lahore, and left for Bombay to join elder brother Chetan Anand in the IPTA.

should be studying and playing in school, not mopping floors in people’s
houses or washing dirty dishes at roadside dhabas. This, in practical
terms, is what the ‘Education for All’ slogan of the Sant Nischal Singh
Foundation (SNSF) means for the thousands of children in Gurgaon, Parwanoo and
other cities who are deprived of formal schooling, either because they never
went to schools, or because circumstances forced them to drop out.
