Rohit, Divyanshi skate to victory

Chandigarh, November 18
Rohit Bajaj and Divyanshi emerged winners in the road races in the boys and girls sections, respectively, in age group 8 to 10 on the concluding day of the District Skating Meet here today at Blue Bird School, Sector 16, Panchkula. Mr Kulbir Singh, senior vice-president (Youth), Indian National Lok Dal, presented medals to winners.

The results: Boys: 6-8 yrs: Mudit Gupta 1, Jatin Rana 2, Karan Narang 3. 8-10 yrs: Rohit Bajaj 1, Lakshya Sindhi 2, Gaurav Manchanda 3. Girls:8-10 yrs:Divyanshi Mittal 1, Nandini Mahajan 2, Richa Chibber 3. boys :10-12 yrs: Mayank Dwivedi 1,Saurabh Dhir 2, Bharat 3.

Women’s cricket

An inter-state open women’s cricket tournament will be held on November 24 and 25 at Government Model Senior Secondary School in Sector 32. This was decided at a meeting of the Chandigarh Women Cricket Association held under the presidentship of Ms Manjit Kaur.

HP students’ meet

The All Himachal Students Association, Panjab University, celebrated its annual sport meet at the university grounds, where competitions in cricket, volleyball and basketball were held. Twelve teams participated in cricket, six in basketball and eight in volleyball. Mr Prashant Deshta, president, AHSA, said that sports activities will boost the students of Himachal Pradesh based in Chandigarh. In the final results, DAV College, Sector 10, bagged the cricket title, Kinnaur won the basketball title, while the AHSA boys earned the second place.

Mr J.K. Chauhan (Deptt of Law), Ms Mili Jaiswal (vice-president, AHSA), Mr Shanti Swaroop Negi (gen secy, AHSA), Ajay S Pathania (jt secy, AHSA) were present along with other members of the organising council on the occasion.

Khalsa club win

The Khalsa Cricket Club outplayed the Bedi Cricket Club by 46 runs in the CNS trophy cricket here at Gursagar grounds.

Brief scores: Khalsa CC:183 runs for six (Ajay Manu 68, Gurpreet 28, Anil 27, Ravi Dhaliwal 19, Rishpal 3 for 39, Hemant Bassi 2 for 19).

Bedi XI: 137 runs all out (Arpinder Bedi 34, Ajay Disodia 34, Parash Kumar 30, Ajay Manu 5 for 29, Rahul 2 for 31).

Ton by Kaku

A fine century by Punjab Ranji player Harminder Kaku, who scored an unbeaten 101 runs in 59 deliveries, enabled the Life Insurance Corporation of India XI in beating the Industrial Cricket Club by eight wickets to enter the last four of the inaugural Desh Prem Azad trophy, organised by the Chandigarh Cricket Association affiliated to the Haryana Cricket Association at Gursagar grounds here on Sunday.

Brief scores: ICC: 160 runs for nine (Amandeep 31, Jatinder 30, Tony Singh 3 for 27, Sandeep 2 for 21) LIC XI: 162 runs for two in 18.4 overs (Harminder Kaku 101 n.o., Gurinder Saini 41, Aman Kumar 2 for 31).
