One dead, 22 hurt in Lal Chowk blast Srinagar, November 24 The police here said that alert Army troops foiled a Fidayeen attack on Balpora campus in Pulwama district of south Kashmir. The lone militant was killed in the retaliatory action by the Army. However, the identity of the militant was yet to be ascertained. An AK rifle, a magazine and a hand grenade were recovered from the slain militant, a police spokesman said here. At least 22 civilians were injured and one Yasir Rafiq were killed in a grenade explosion near Clock Tower in the Lal Chowk area here this afternoon. Those injured were shifted to hospital, where the condition of two of them was stated to be serious. Five others were discharged after first aid. The police said the grenade, targeted at a vehicle of the security forces, missed the target and exploded on the road, resulting in injuries to 23 pedestrians. Unconfirmed reports said a seriously injured person died on way to hospital. Two militants of the Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Kanroos, Pattan, in Baramula district early this morning. One of them was identified as Javed Ahmad Khanday, alias Doctor, while the recoveries made from the militants included two AK rifles, six magazines and a wireless set. The police spokesman said here that the Army and the SOG, Pattan, killed the militants in the wee hours today. They were involved in the killings of several policemen in the area. Another militant of the Hizbul Mujahideen, Nazir Ahmad Wagay, alias Nadeen Cuerilla, was killed in an encounter with the security forces in the Kukgam area of Anantnag district yesterday. An AK rifle, two magazines, 60 rounds, one hand grenade and a wireless set were recovered from the slain militant, the police said. The Border Security Force killed an unidentified militant at Gudder in the Kulgam area of Anantnag district. A pistol and a hand grenade were recovered from the slain militant. The SOG, Budgam, killed an unidentified militant during an encounter at Chandipora, Budgam, this morning. Unidentified gunmen shot dead Firdous Ahmad Sheikh, an SPO at Hatmulla in Kupwara district, yesterday. |
