Arrangements for closing ceremony finalised
Ludhiana, November 28
All arrangements for the closing ceremony of the 31st National Games on December 1 have been completed. Stating this here today, the Deputy Commissioner, Mr S K Sandhu, who is also Chairman of the Regional Committee, National Games, said that the closing ceremony would start at 4.30 in the evening.

A abductor of an one and half year old child has been convicted and sentenced to undergo 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment. The course has also imposed a fine of Rs 1,500 upon the accused.

An impressive nagar kirtan was taken out from Gurdwara Kalgidhar, Field Ganj, in connection with the birthday celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev here this afternoon. The nagar kirtan, which was led by the Panj Piaras, was greeted by people with bowed heads and folded hands along the entire way to Jagraon bridge, the Clock Tower , division number three chowk and to the gurdwara via Subhani building chowk.

Organisation urges MC for change in billing system

Mr A.K. Bhandari, general secretary, Public Cause, a social organisation, has urged Mr. R.L. Kalsia, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, to personally look into water billing system being adopted currently and order suitable changes to mitigate the genuine public problems in this regard.

21.69 cr for sewerage, water supply
Khanna, November 28
The Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) has passed a sewerage and water supply scheme amounting Rs 21.69 crore for the town. It has sanctioned a loan of Rs 17.35 crore for the scheme to the Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Punjab, which would execute the work.

The city police yesterday registered a case under the Noise Control Act of 1956, against some persons for using a public address system mounted on a three-wheeler without having obtained the permission to do so.

Plea to help thalassemic patients
Ludhiana, November 28
Thalassemia minor is the commonest inherited disorder among Indians, and Punjabis are more prone to get the disease. Voluntary organisations and educational institutions should come forward in aid of these patients, as the incidence of the disease was increasing manifold, said Dr J.G.Jolly, former Head of the Department of Blood Transfusion Department at the PGI and visiting consultant at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, here today.

32 jaundice cases reported in city
Ludhiana, November 28
The Health Department here today reported over 32 cases of jaundice in the city. All these cases were reported from the Adarsh colony in the Haibowal area.
Dr Rajinder Kaur, Civil Surgeon while talking to Ludhiana Tribune, said, “Though it is in epidemic form in the Haibowal area, there is no need to panic.
