Exhibition at
BCM school Ludhiana, November 29 The exhibition was divided into nine sections including craft, mathematics, cookery, textile painting, stamp collection, oil painting, photography, computer and gardening. In the craft section, the students had displayed murals, soft toys, carry bags, variously shaped candles, wall hangings with metal embossing, glass painting and sand painting. Needle work on handkerchiefs, wall hangings, winter wears with cross stitches, long stitches, knitting and crochets were also exhibited. In mathematics section, tricks of cubing, squaring, multiplication, division, solutions to quadratic equations were given using single line by a quicker method by Naveen, Ekta and Deepak, all Class XI students. In cookery section, preparation of jal jeera, rabri, lassi, soups, tikki, cutlets, cake, pizza, spring rolls, gulab jamun, gajrela and gur rice were demonstrated by the students of Classes VI to VIII. In textile designing section, towels, bed sheets, cushion covers and ladies suits were painted using spray painting, nozzle painting and hand painting techniques. In the gardening section, Ankit, Mandeep and Amit of Class XI demonstrated the Japanese technique of growing healthy saplings. Inderpal from the same class displayed a glass house. Hydroponic technique was demonstrated by Subhrajit of Class XI. Besides, Simran Dhaliwal displayed a miniature of terrace gardening and Ashita Chopra exhibited mushroom cultivation. In the science section, Gursimran and Sonia of Class XI gave a demonstration of various dental problems and their cure. Niharika and Archna of Class X prepared a model of various biotechnological methods including DNA finger printing, gene transplantation, cloning, test tube baby and genetic engineering. Priyanka Garg made a model of the digestive system and Priyanka Joshi displayed a model of a theatre. Besides, Class XI students prepared a huge periodic table on a thermocol sheet. In the oil painting section, Mitu of Class XII painted a monochrome, Ruchi Gupta painted a portrait of a labourer and Gutej displayed a composition. In the painting section for primary section students, landscapes made of ice cream sticks, pulses, rice and beans were on display. The computer club students gave a demonstration of games, downloading techniques and picture editing techniques. Using a digital camera, they displayed the technique of video conferencing. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Ravinder Kaur, Principal, Malwa Central College of Education, and coordinated by Ms Anju Singh, a school teacher. Ms Paramjit Kaur, Principal, and Mr Satyanand Munjal, chairman of the managing committee, appreciated the efforts of the students. |

Students celebrate Gurpurab Ludhiana, November 29 The students recited the Japuji sahib and sang hymns of Guru Nanak. Munish from Class XI spoke on ‘Guru Nanak - A great teacher of humanity’. Baljeet Kaur of Class X delivered speech ‘Sab ka masiha’. A quiz on the life of Guru Nanak was also organised. Ms Avinash Kaur Walia, Principal and Director of the school, said Guru Nanak was a teacher and propounder of secular and human values. She told the students to follow his teachings and refrain from the moral degeneration. Meanwhile, students of New Senior Secondary School celebrated the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak with religious fervour here today.
Five students were made Panj Piaras. Students recited the sacred hymns. A declamation contest was also organised on the teachings of Guru Nanak. Besides, langar was also organised. Ms V.L. Patel, Headmistress, told the students to follow the teachings of Guruji. Mr Sunil Maria, president, and Mr Karan Thapar, secretary of the school management, were also present on the occasion. |

Exhibition
of candles, paintings Ludhiana, November 29 On the occasion, a declamation contest on the topic ‘Effect of terrorism’ was organised in which Meenakshi and Gaganpreet from Class IX, Ramanpreet from Class X, Shilpi from Class VII and Manpreet from Class IX participated. The contest was adjudged by Ms Gagan Watika from the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital and Prof Shefali Sharma from the Khalsa College for Women. An exhibition of candles, diyas, artificial flowers, wall hangings made by nib painting, dot painting, glass painting, emboss painting, cross stitching and oil painting, and shagun envelops was arranged. Besides, a cultural programme was also organised in which the students danced on the songs, ‘Resham ka rumal’, Khao piyo aish karo mitro’, ‘Daddy cool’ and ‘Chappa chappa charkha’. Shilpa from Class VI acted like a joker and entertained all those present.
Mr D. R. Bhatti, ADG, Punjab Police, was the chief guest. Ms Simmi Gupta, Principal, appreciated the efforts of the students. |

PAU changes
festival name Ludhiana, November 29 The authorities said that the trophy given away to a college for best performance in the festival would be named after him as it would be called ‘Kakkar trophy’. His contemporaries in the university recall that Dr kakkar was the heart and soul of the cultural activities in PAU at that time. In fact he was the person who had started all the activities which are even organised till date. The university had infact dedicated the youth festival to him to recognise his contributions. The meeting of the university Dance, Drama and Music Club held here today decided the dates of the organisation of the Youth
Festival. It would be conducted on February 28, 29 and January 1. |

Bhangra beats sway West Ludhiana, November 29 They went on to perform in Oslo, Trondhiem, Stockholm and Scopinhegan. Their 24-day whirlwind tour provided them opportunities to interact with other participants. The Rangla Group, which had taken the team to take part in the International Festival ISFIT-01, held three workshops with great success. The team put up an excellent performance in all the cities. The manager and group leader, Mr Ajay Kumar, presented papers with slides and actual dance performance during the festival on “Role of Theatre and Dance in the Indian Punjabi Culture”, which was received with warm appreciation. The variety of events presented by the group included folk orchestra, ‘Jindua’, Mirza-Sahiba, ‘Krti-di-Kuli’ (harvesting dance), ‘Jhoomer’, ‘Nagan Dance’, Gidda , Malwai Gidda besides bhangra. The amazing variety of dances dumbfounded the audience. The group, comprising young budding artists — Ashwani Kumar, Jatinder Singh, Pardeep Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Ajay Inder Singh, Pakesh Jogi, Jaspreet Sethi, Hardeep Singh, Malkit Singh, J.B. Singh — was pleased with its maiden success. |
