Fete at Sacred Heart School
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, December 2
A fete was organised at Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar, in the school grounds here today. The holiday mood after the National Games seems to be persisting as a large number of children and their parents were seen enjoying the games.

Children enjoyed joyrides on Columbus, merry go rounds, a giant wheel, a small train and an aeroplane with Air India written boldly on it.

The ground was gaily decorated with flags and the people in their colourful clothes seemed to be competing with each other. The variety of snacks provided was varied. The entire families could be seen enjoying ‘bhelpuri’, ‘golgappas’ and ‘paav bhajii and many kinds of ‘yummy chaat’ sitting under gaily coloured umbrellas.

The tambola stall had a lot of takers. Student volunteers were seated on the stage and inviting people to come for a game of tambola. The ‘Request Stall’ was very popular with young people as they could play the songs of their choice for their friends. Through the songs they were sending messages too to their loved ones.

The chief guest of the fete was Mr Vijay Munjal, M.D. of Hero Cycles.

Plan to educate children on AIDS
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, December 2
Punjab holds the fourth rank in having the highest number of AIDS/HIV patients in the country. Sex workers and truck drivers are the high risk groups here. Before the steps initiated this year by the Peoples Health Organisation, an internationally acclaimed NGO, no other NGO had been working specifically for the medico social welfare of AIDS/HIV patients in Punjab. The organisation has already started working actively by opening up its branches throughout the state. The Skin Department of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital has been declared as its Ludhiana Chapter, according to Dr Alka Dogra, Head, Dermatology Department, DMCH.

“We have been holding awareness lectures for the public and AIDS quiz for medical students also”, said Dr Dogra. The Ludhiana Chapter also plans to extend its awareness campaign to involve schoolchildren and teenagers.
