Tearful farewell to the lost sentinels

Amid poignant scenes of grieving relatives, trying to put up a brave face, the bodies of the four Delhi Police personnel were handed over to the relatives with full honours. Shots of a14-gun salute reverberated in honour of the policemen who thwarted the designs of the terrorists, before making the supreme sacrifice in a bid to protect the hallowed precincts of Parliament.

Wiser, Govt deploys Delhi Police at New Secretariat
New Delhi, December 14
The immediate fallout of the high alert, sounded in the wake of Thursday’s storming of Parliament House, has been the deployment of Delhi Police personnel at the New Secretariat of the Government of NCT of Delhi. Instructions have been issued for the setting up of a barbed-wire fence around the Old Secretariat for securing the Delhi Assembly.

CBI arrests five MCD engineers

The CBI has arrested five junior MCD engineers for causing a revenue loss of lakhs of rupees to the corporation by colluding with the contractors. The arrested persons were identified as H G Saxena, A K Jain, Baljit Singh, J P Singh and Manoj Kumar, the agency said.

Some unidentified persons made their way into a shop at Anaj Mandi of Ballabgarh town on Thursday night and decamped with a safe containing Rs 80000.

A Junior Engineer (JE) of the block development office at Palwal town in the district was arrested Thursday by vigilance officials while accepting a ‘bribe.’ The accused identified as Dharmender Kalra, a JE, had asked for graft for clearing the payment of Rajju, a contractor.

The Rohtak civil judge, Ms Madhu Khanna, has ruled that the refusal to renew a driving licence on the failure of the applicant to produce a ‘no-due certificate’ from the electricity department was unjust, arbitrary and against the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
