Course on cosmetic dentistry

The Indian Dental Association (IDA) Punjab State Branch is organising one day hands-on course and table clinics with extensive lectures and demonstration on ‘Cosmetic Dentistry, Now and Forever’ on December 16 at Park Plaza.

Dr Puneet Girdhar, state secretary, IDA, Punjab State, in a statement today said that the course would be conducted by Dr Kanir Bhatia and Dr Vivek Saggar. Dr Kanir Bhatia is a cosmetic surgeon from Mumbai and is responsible for the beautiful smile of Miss Universe 2000 Lara Dutta.

Mr S.K. Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner will be the chief guest.

At a scientific session, both the speakers would be discussing the latest trends, materials and up-to- date techniques of cosmetic dentistry and would be sharing their experiences in this field. Over 100 dentists from all over the state would be attending this course. The lectures would be supported by slides, projectors, computers, closed circuit cameras and other infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the dental fortnight celebrations of Ludhiana district concluded here at the Civil Hospital yesterday. The function was presided over by Dr Harvinder Singh, SMO Civil Hospital Dentures were distributed among the patients, free of cost.

The fortnight was celebrated at Samrala, Khanna and Jagraon and over 10,258 children and patients were examined by the doctors. A total of 208 dentures were distributed and the fillings, extractions, cleaning of teeth and surgeries were done free of cost.

Blood donation camp for thalassemic patients

Ludhiana, December 15
For the welfare for thalassemia patients, 102 factory workers and the supervisory staff of Highway Cycles Industry, Sahnewal donated blood at a blood donation camp organised by Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in the factory premises.

A team comprising a doctor and four interns and technicians from the DMCH had gone to collect blood. Dr Praveen Sobti, Reader, Paediatrics Department, DMCH, and in charge, thalassemia unit, delivered a talk to the workers about the disease and its gravity. She informed that currently more than 103 patients of thalassemia from all over the North come to thalassemia unit of the DMCH and 100 to 120 units of blood were required every month to carry out the blood transfusion. The lives of these patients entirely depended upon the availability of blood. This can only be made possible if people would come forward for the voluntary blood donation. She also said the DMCH had been working for this cause by joining hands with the Punjab Thalassemics Welfare Society.

She also thanked Mr Umesh Munjal, Managing Director, Highway Cycles Industry, for his support in organising the camp.

Dr Mam invited to international conference

Dr M.K. Mam, Professor and Head of Department of Orthopaedics, Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), has been invited to an international conference being held at Hong Kong from December 15 to 19 on ‘Comprehensive bioskill course on Fracture Fixation’.

Dr Mam is the only doctor to be invited from the region to the conference being organised by the Asian Association for Dynamic Osteosynthesis. The conference will focus on latest development in orthopaedics.

Dr Mam, an acclaimed orthopaedician, has participated in several national and international conferences. He was one of the select orthopaedicians.
