Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan
by Ranga

KHAN Abdul Ghaffar Khan, popularly known as Frontier Gandhi came to India from Pakistan in 1969 — his first visit after Partition at the invitation of Indira Gandhi. As he arrived at the Palam Airport in Delhi, he was greeted by his one-time Red Shirt followers and a huge crowd of admirers.

Though there was not much security, he was surrounded all the time by political workers and Congress volunteers. However, I managed to meet him at the residence of Mohammed Yunus, his nephew, while he was taking his breakfast.

After drawing his sketch, I gently asked him whether he would like to autograph it.

At first, he showed no interest but later on he gave it a second look. He glanced over it, smiled and took my pen to affix his signature over it and asked me whether I was satisfied. I said ‘Thank you’.
