Equestrian show impresses sports buffs
Our Sports Reporter

Chandigarh, December 17
Equestrian which is otherwise recognised as an international sport is a much popular sport among the city enthusiasts too but due to absence of any official coaching centre, it failed take a leap. Last week, the equestrian show by students of Punjab Public School, Nabha, mesmerised everyone present at the venue with their spectacular performance. Sports enthusiasts from city thronged the Police Lines, in Sector 26, Chandigarh, to watch the marvellous show.

The show generated so much enthusiasm that six-year-old child asked her to get one horse for him. Another eight-old-girl was desiring to join this school whose students were doing wonders with horses.

One of the organisers said, “In equestrian we have several events such as show jumping, tent pegging. Even the rider who has adequate skills can also go in for horse polo events which were quite appealing to the spectators. Only few months back, an All-India Maharaja Ranjit Singh Polo Tournament was organised in Chandigarh which was widely acclaimed.

Col A.S. Judge, former president of the Chandigarh Olympic Association, too had done yeoman’s service by training youngsters to promote the sport, he had given a suggestion to the Administration few years back to allot the vacant land near the Kishangarh village for opening an academy.

Unfortunately, the riding school at the Police Lines was not giving any training to the budding riders for quite some time. Though a keen riding instructor with the help of his few friends had started a riding club near Kansal village last year to promote the sport.
