Dreaming of birth
Vinaya Katoch Manhas

ALTHOUGH seeing children in dreams is not unusual but to see oneself or someone else give birth to a child is uncommon.

As per Indian thought for a married woman to see someone or herself giving birth to a child foretells that her troubles and anxieties will come to an end. But if the lady who sees such a dream is unmarried, then it is warning of impending bad luck. Her reputation could also be threatened. To see yourself celebrating your birthday it is an indication of ill-will to your life. Should you see someone else’s birthday being celebrated, then the same stands true for that person also.

As per western thought for a married woman to dream of giving birth to a child, great joy and a handsome legacy is foretold. Should a single woman see this she is warned of loss of virtue and abandonment by her lover. Seeing birthdays being celebrated is an omen of poverty and falsehood for the young and long troubles and desolation for the old.

Psychologically, birth represents the beginning of a new period in your life, a new attitude or a new ability. In women it is also the symbol of the most innate desire to become a mother. It spells creation, the advent of something new. It also spells continuation. When the old dies, it gives way to something new. This represents continuation.

Celebrating birthdays is the representation of growth. A lady who had three children often dreamt of getting pregnant and giving birth to a male child. This dream often left her feeling insecure regarding the protection she had adopted to prevent pregnancy.

This dream had two conflicting emotions. All her three children were girls so the desire for a male child had always been there, this was the reason she dreamt of a son. The burden of raising three children when she and her husband had only wanted two was the reason for the fear and insecurity regarding another unwanted pregnancy.

A similar dream in the case of a woman who had no children would be interpreted as a wish-fulfillment dream. In the case of an unmarried woman or a man it could be interpreted as a realisation of a particular aspect of their personality, hitherto unknown. Generally when one tries to effect a change within oneself, such a dream is a common occurrence.
