Rev Desmond Tutu
by Ranga

THE Archbishop of Capetown, Nobel Peace prize winner Rev. Desmond Mpilo Tutu was in Delhi, in 1995 on a goodwill mission. The South African leader who attained fame on account of his liberal disposition towards many international issues had a busy time during his short stay in the Capital. The 70-year-old moral activist met many people from all walks of life in Delhi and had a glimpse of India’s tradition and culture. He mixed with people with ease. It was during this time, I took the opportunity of sketching him and as I approach him for his autograph over it, he was immensely pleased to have a look at his portrait and readily affixed his remarks ‘God bless you & thanks’.
