‘Issue concessional bus passes’
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, December 25
Students from Desh Bhagat Ayurvedic College, Mandi Gobindgarh, have been demanding concessional bus passes for the past five years, but have still not managed to procure them.

The students have repeatedly written to the Director, Research and Medical Education, Punjab, authorities of the Punjab Roadways and Punjab Road Transport Corporation, Minister of Higher Education and even the Chief Minister but nothing has been done so far.

The students said as per the Punjab Government policy, the concession should be given to the students residing in Punjab to facilitate them to commute upto the distance of 60 km.

The students said the college was affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, and nearly 73 students from the college commute from different parts of Punjab daily.

They said that by availing concessional bus passes, they would get some financial support from the government. They said that for availing such passes it was necessary for them to get the consent of the head of the department in writing but the head of the DRME was reluctant to hand over any such letter.

JBT candidates meet DC
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, December 25
The selected JBT candidates, who had been denied appointment last Sunday, met the Deputy Commissioner, Mr S.K. Sandhu, yesterday demanding that they be issued orders by the Education Department.

Nearly 87 candidates, who had been screened for the posts and later rejected by the department, demanded that the DC should intervene in the matter. The candidates even managed to procure and join the torn pieces of the merit list in which their roll numbers had been given. They presented a photocopy of the list to the DC while presenting their case. The list mentions the serial numbers from 129 to 175 with their marks.

It may be mentioned that 175 candidates had been invited at the in-service training centre at Bharat Nagar Chowk on Sunday to collect their appointment letters. The candidates had alleged that the list of roll numbers of the last 87 candidates had been torn by officials of the Education Department who told them that the seats had already been filled. The candidates said that when they approached Ms Usha Sidhu, District Education Officer (Secondary), she expressed her helplessness.
