Sunoh, Lucky’s not Sifar on music charts

BORN Maqsood Mehmood Ali, Lucky Ali first drew attention with the song ‘O sanam’ from the album, Sunoh. The song was filmed in the pyramids of Egypt and had his wife Masoom as one of the actors. The album sold over 4,00,000 copies and remained on the top of the charts on many channels. With his hard work and dedication Lucky emerged successfully from the shadow of his father Mehmood — a successful comedian in Hindi movies. The album won him several awards, including best pop male vocalist at the 1996 Screen Awards, the Channel [V] Viewers’ Choice Award (1997). He stayed on the MTV Asia Charts for 60 weeks. He is happily settled in New Zealand with his wife and two children. Before singing he used to breed racehorses and also sold carpets in a friend’s showroom. He then worked at an oil rig in Pondicherry. After Sunoh, Lucky’s second album, Sifar, was released by Sony music in 1997 that was also a big success. The success of both his albums made his way to background music. He worked with music director Rajesh Roshan for the film ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’ and recorded two songs, ‘Ek pal ka jeena’ and ‘Na tum jaano na hum’. The songs made history on the charts. ‘Na tum jaano na hum’ won Filmfare award for best male playback singer. The latest release of Lucky Ali is Aks. The album has 10 songs.
