Gen Vij goes on leave
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, January 20
The Indian Army tonight refuted reports regarding the sacking of Lt-Gen Kapil Vij, Commander of 2 Corps, which during peace times is based in Ambala but is presently deployed on the borders due to the ongoing “Parakram”.

“General Vij is a soldier of high professional repute. He has gone on long leave due to some personal reasons after completing his normal command tenure,” Army spokesman Col Shruti Kant said. The normal command tenure is between 14 and 20 months.

Keeping in view his request for proceeding on long leave due to some personal reasons, Lt-Gen P.S. Thakur has been attached to 2 Corps pending approval by the government, Col Shruti Kant said.

The Army spokesman made this clarification when asked about reports that General Vij had been “sacked” because he had taken certain operational decisions without permission of the Army Headquarters.
