8 held for car thefts, 5 cars recovered
Sangrur, March 30
The local police today claim to have busted an inter-state gang of 11 members, allegedly involved in cheating the owners of car agencies at Ludhiana, Sangrur and other places. A case has been registered under Sections 420, 471, 468, 379, and 411 of the IPC.

Under a campaign launched against anti-social elements, the district police has busted an inter-state gang of car thieves and recovered four vehicles from their possession.

Rs 2.76 lakh looted from Coop Bank
Bathinda, March 30
Three unidentified youths looted Rs 2.76 lakh from a branch of Bathinda Central Cooperative Bank at Dhapali village 40 km from here this afternoon. Police sources said that three youths came on a scooter at 12.45 p.m. at the branch and asked the bank staff and others present there to go to a particular room. Sources said that they were armed with pistols. They locked the room from outside.

Sarpanch booked under Arms Act

Mr Sarbjit Singh, sarpanch of Lalughuman village, along with his two supporters, have been booked under the Excise Act and the Arms Act.

Abducted girl rescued
Khanna, March 30
The Machhiwara police today rescued a 17-year-old girl from a resident of Machhiwara. The girl was allegedly abducted about four weeks ago from her residence. A police party took her to Ludhiana today for medical examination.

Head Constable Gurlal Singh and his accomplice Major Singh have been booked under the NDPC Act by the local Sadar police.
