Vaiko, 8 others chargesheeted

A charge sheet against MDMK chief Vaiko and eight others, arrested in July under POTA for their alleged remarks supporting the banned LTTE, was filed by the Tamil Nadu police today.

The charge sheet, running into 440 pages, was filed at the designated POTA court in suburban Poonamalee. Mr Vaiko and the others had been charged under section 21 (2) and (3) of POTA for their alleged speech supporting the LTTE made at Thirumangalam in Madurai district in June last.

The charge sheet was filed today to comply with the provisions of POTA, which stipulate that the charge sheet has to be filed within 180 days of the arrest. PTI
