 10 soldiers killed
          in avalanches
           Srinagar, March 6 Official sources said that at least five soldiers were killed when
          their bunker was buried under a avalanche at Kharboo on the Kargil-Leh
          national highway early this morning.
           In a similar incident in the Muskhoo valley in the Kargil sector,
          more than 12 soldiers were buried under an avalanche near a forward
          post after the area had about 8 ft of snowfall early this week.
           The bodies of five soldiers were recovered while a search for the
          others was on, the sources said. Helicopters and snow-clearing
          vehicles had been pressed into service.
           JAMMU: The Indian Air Force will airlift hundreds of persons
          stranded at Leh in Jammu and Kashmir due to heavy snowfall, official
          sources said on Thursday.
           The move came following a telephonic conversation between Defence
          Minister George Fernandes and the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad
          Sayeed. Earlier, Minister for Employment Rigzin Zora and legislator
          from Nobra Sonam Wangchuk Norbu had sought Mufti Sayeed’s
          intervention in transporting 700 stranded persons.
           They told the Chief Minister that there seemed to be no likelihood
          of reopening of the road link to Nobra for another month or so.
           One person and five head of cattle were buried alive in a landslide
          in Doda district, official sources said here.
           Gul Mohammad was asleep in his hut when the landslide occurred
          killing him and the cattle in the Gargoo-Ramsoo area of the district
          last night.
           The victim’s body was recovered today.
           Five houses were damaged due to incessant rain in the Surankote
          hills of Poonch district. Fourteen more houses collapsed due to heavy
          rain in the Mendhar, Shahpur, Darba and Degwar areas of Poonch
