The Northern Railways has commissioned six passenger reservation counters at Srinagar, Anantnag, Budgam, Pulwama, Baramula and Kupwara in the valley.

The Minister for Forests and Environment, Mr Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Sofi, today announced that a bill would be introduced to amend the Conservation of Forest Act in the coming session to make the act more effective against forest land encroachers.

The Northern Railways has commissioned six passenger reservation counters at Srinagar, Anantnag, Budgam, Pulwama, Baramula and Kupwara in the valley.

According to the Divisional Traffic Manager, Northern Railways, Jammu, two additional reservation counters will be commissioned shortly in Jammu. These counters will be set up at the Trikuta shopping complex in the Bus Stand area and on the Laxmi Narayan Temple complex, Gandhinagar.

The Minister for Forests and Environment, Mr Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Sofi, today announced that a bill would be introduced to amend the Conservation of Forest Act in the coming session to make the act more effective against forest land encroachers.

Addressing a meeting of the consultative committee here today, the minister said that the present act had been misused by the previous government to set up new colonies on forest land. About 620 kanals of forest land at Sidhra had been encroached upon.

Regretting the increase in the degraded forest area, he said it had already reached 9 lakh hectares. There was immediate need to take concrete measures to revive the degraded forest land to preserve the ecological balance.
