Athletics meet at Sacred Heart begins

A three-day athletics meet of the local Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar, got off to a colourful start. Olympian and Asian Games gold medallist (shot put), Bahadur Singh, declared the meet open. Manjeet Kaur, member of the gold medal winning relay team in the Asian Games, was the guest of honour.

Before the inauguration, participants took out an impressive march past and Vibha Babbar, eminent swimmer of the state, took oath on behalf of the participants. Results: Group-B- Shotput (girls)- Navneet Kaur (1), Gurneet Kaur and Navreen Kaur (2) and Navleen Kaur (3); Long jump (boys) Sandeep Dhand (1), Royan Baptist (2) and Dhruv Verma (3).

Shotput (girls) Group C- Harneet Kaur (1), Navdeep Kaur (2) and Shilpa (3).

Discus throw (girls) Group C- Harneet Bhatti (1), Varidhi (2) and Nilima (3).

400m (girls) Group C- Vibha Babbar (1), Sweety (2) and Sheffy (3).

200m (girls) Group B- Jasmine (1), Chetna (2) and Jasmine Puri (3).

Fun games mark sports day

A large number of students from nursery to standard VII took part in the annual sports day for junior boys and girls of Everest Public Senior Secondary School, Moti Nagar, here today. The participants were enthusiastic while taking part in the fun games. Mr Rajinder Sharma, president, Association of the Punjab School Education Board-affiliated schools, distributed the prizes. The winners of various events are: Ballon race- (nursery) Dilpreet 1, Nidhi 2, Tanish 3; (LKG)- Amritpal 1, Vikram 2, Johar 3; (UKG)- Naval 1, Paras 2, Sachin 3; (class I)- Tarun 1, Abish 2 and Madhu 3.

Three-legged race (class II)- Manveer Kaur 1, Sakshi 2, Gagandeep 3; (class III)- Gurleen 1; (class IV)- Rupam 1, Amandeep 2, Ajit 3.

Bori race- (class V)- Rupinder and Kamalpreet 1, Amandeep 2; (class VI)- Shefali and Navroop 1, Sujata 2, Amandeep and Ravi 3; (class VII)- Rakesh Saini 1, Vinay 2 and Kulveer 3; Cycle race (class VII)- Sumit 1, Rakesh 2 and Niranjan 3.
