To be successful, you have to be an optimist

Jawaharlal Nehru once said that success often comes to those who dare and act; it seldom comes to the timid. Success begins with a person’s will. We can soar to success if we think and believe that we can definitely and positively attain success. Anything is possible for those who believe and toil.

Success starts and grows with will power. Sooner or later, the man who wins is the man who thinks and believes he can win. Hence it is the strength of our will power which ultimately spells our success. With a firm will, one can face any obstacle or challenge, and with optimism and hope, one can crown one’s self with success. Success is not merely a question of luck or genius. It mostly depends on hard work and the ability to persist, despite odds, temporary setbacks and adverse circumstances.

We are the masters of our fate and the makers of our own destiny. If we want the good things in life, we must work for them. Great things do not happen because we merely desire them or even deserve them. Instead, we have to make them happen by our iron-will, hard work, sweat and toil. Life is what we make it. Whether it is fame or fortune, power or position, health or wealth— they all come through positive thinking, planned action and profound enthusiasm.

A champion puts all he has into every punch. Be bold, energetic and enthusiastic. Have courage and confidence, seek opportunities and accept responsibilities. Keep your attention fixed on your chosen goal. Have faith in yourself and begin the work, here and now. Be resolute and do not stop, come what may, till the goal is reached. Chart your route, mobilise your resources, get going and keep going.

To be successful, you have to be an optimist. Optimism keeps your hopes alive. It makes you think positively. Sooner or later, the man who wins is the man who thinks he can win. As William James, the well-known US psychologist, has said: "Our belief at the beginning of a doubtful undertaking is the one thing which ensures the successful outcome of our venture".

To register victory, to score success — what is required is unwavering faith. Faith is a miracle worker. It looks beyond all boundaries, transcends all limitations, conquers all obstacles and carries you to your goal. It is faith which gives you staying power when the circumstances are unfavourable. Therefore, have faith, take courage and march ahead, till you attain your goal.

Success depends on adequate preparation and indomitable determination. All the achievements of the successful and the great are instances of the restless force of perseverance. All the great people whom we admire and worship today were once like you and me. They, whom we glorify today, won their name and fame with the same gifts that you and I possess. We too can rise, be strong and crown ourselves with success and glory, if we stake our faith on honest work and go forth and do.
