Balconies allowed on front

In a move which will change the way houses in the city will look in the future, a committee of the Chandigarh Administration on need-based changes today recommended the construction of balconies projecting out by 3 feet.

2 sisters asphyxiated

Two sisters, Priya, 5, and Rishu, 3, were reportedly asphyxiated in their house on the CSIO campus, Sector 30, while their parents were away carrying out their evening business of selling boiled eggs by the roadside.

Solution eludes stray cattle problem

As stray cattle seem to be winning the battle on the road against human beings, a concrete solution still eludes the problem. Even as the residents, especially scooterists, are panicky and fearful about stray cattle, the respective authorities in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali have so far not been able to suggest a way out.

Man charges dentist with negligence
Mohali, December 6
Love your teeth and they will make you loveable, states the OPD card of a local dentist here. But for a 66-year-old resident of Phase II, going to this particular dentist has left a sour taste in his mouth. Alleging negligence on the dentist’s part, the resident, Mr N.P. Jain, has in a complaint to Chandigarh Tribune, stated that Dr D.S. Jatana fractured his jaw while trying to extract his tooth and tried to keep his mistake under the wraps by not informing the patient that he had caused the jaw fracture.

Bajrang Dal men hold procession
Chandigarh, December 6
Brandishing swords and rods, activists of the local unit of the Bajrang Dal, today held a procession in the city on the occasion of ‘Shaurya Divas’ . The procession, which wound its way through various sectors of the city, caused inconvenience to motorists as the traffic was held up or had to be diverted at several places.

Man dies of cold
Panchkula, December 6
A 50-year-old man reportedly died of cold at the Sector 17 bus stop last night. The man, who is still unidentified, had reportedly taken shelter at the bus stop for the night.

Seminar on working women and childcare

An interactive seminar on “Working Woman and Child Care” was organised by the Mums Mall at Gandhi Bhavan at Panjab University here today. The basic concept of the seminar was to provide a platform for the working woman to not only discuss and share her problems but also to work towards resolving them.

About eight schools participated in inter-school carol music competition organised by Chandigarh Young Men’s Christian Association at Bal Bhavan in Sector 23 today. The theme for the music competition was ‘’Peace on earth and goodwill towards God’s creation’’.

An inter-school group singing competition was organised by Saraswati Kala Sangam at Satluj Public School today. The competition, called Rajdeep Singh Pundir Smriti Sangeet Pratiyogita, saw participation from six schools.

In an application filed in the Sukhna Lake case before the High Court, a Nayagaon resident today sought directions for restraining the states of Haryana and Punjab, besides the Union Territory of Chandigarh, from using public funds for purposes other than agriculture and afforestation.

273 cases settled at Lok Adalat
Mohali, December 6
A total of 273 cases were settled at a special Lok Adalat held at the district court complex at Ropar, today. According to a press note issued by the PRO Ropar, a total of 730 cases were examined during the day.

Workshop on endoscopic surgery begins

Delegates at the two-day workshop on endoscopic and leparoscopic surgery, which began at Western Command Hospital, Chandi Mandir, today, were given live demonstration on surgical procedures, beamed directly onto projection screens in the auditorium from two of the hospital’s operation theatres.
