Manjit Kaur bags best athlete trophy

New Delhi, December 12
Manjit Kaur of Punjab Police, who won the 400m gold, was adjudged the best woman athlete of the 52nd All-India Police Athletic Championship which concluded at the BSF camp, Chhawla on Friday.

Punjab Police also annexed the overall trophy. Jagdish Bishnoi, who won the javelin gold, got the best athlete award in the men’s section. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) lifted the women’s trophy.

Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani gave away the prizes. BSF director-general Ajay Raj Sharma, additional DG A K Mitra, IG (training) S K Dutta and Intelligence Bureau director K P Singh were also present.

On the final day’s competition, Upendra of CRPF won the gruelling 10,000m race, Rupesh Thakur of MP Police won the 400m for men, Rajesh Babu of CRPF bagged the men’s long jump gold while Zora Singh of BSF won the decathlon title.

Harwant Kaur of Punjab bagged the discuss throw gold and Sheeja Mathew of CRPF won the javelin title.

Ganga enter hockey final

New Delhi, December 12
Ganga School, Hiran Kudna defeated Mavi College, Ajmer 4-1 to enter the final of the All-India CBSE Hockey Tournament. Anoop scored a brace while Parveen Huda and Satish slotted in a goal each for Ganga.

Manish hits century

An all-round display by Manish Kumar, including a century, helped Sky Ways beat Swift by 111 runs and entered the quarter-final of the ACCD Cricket Tournament at the Venkateshwara College ground. Scores: Sky Ways: 209 for 4 (Manish Kumar 105, Shiv 34, Yashpal 32). Swift: 98 (Shekar 43, Manish 3 for 6, Yaspal 4 for 3).

GE Capital win

G E Capital beat Associate by 72 runs in the Eventus Cricket Tournament. Scores: GE Capital: 185 for 7 (Rahul Dixit 37, Arjit Banerjee 36, Rodney Charles 35, Rakesh Makkar 1 for 16, Javed Khan 1 for 17). Associate: 113 for 7.

Parzowar finish third in World Cup

Parzowar Kalindi School, Bangladesh defeated Razzak High School, Bangladesh by eight wickets to win the third place in the DPS World Cup Cricket for Schools at the SGTB Khalsa College ground.

Scores: Razzak School: 107 (Monem Kaysar 35, Azizur Rahman 30, Faysal Ahmad Hanif 5 for 15, Imran Hossain 3 for 12).

Parzowar School: 109 for 2 (Anowar Hossain 38 n o, Alamgir Hossain Rana 32).

DAV School, Chandigarh will take on Salwan Boys, Delhi in the title clash at the SGTB Khalsa College ground on Saturday at 9.30 am.

Shakti Vidyalaya win

Rashtriya Shakti Vidyalaya (Hastal) defeated DAV, Shalimar Bagh by six wickets in the Kehar Singh Memorial Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Vikaspuri ground.

Scores: DAV: 128 (Vaibhav Tyagi 33 n o, Sandeep Kaushik 30, Mahtab Ali 3 for 26, Anil Kumar 3 for 20, Rajesh Nagar 3 for 29). Rashtriya Shakti Vidyalaya: 129 for 4 (Jitender Pal 46, Bittu Goswami 39, Anil Kumar 30, Ankit Dabas 3 for 18).

Sonnet garner 12 points

Sonnet Club drew with Lal Bahadur Shastri Club and collected 12 points for gaining the first innings lead in the Aviva Young Achiever Under-13 Cricket Tournament at the Bharat Nagar ground. Shastri Club got six points.

Teri beat Australian HC

Teri defeated Australian High Commission by seven wickets in the DG Phadkar Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Teri Oval.

Chowrasia in sight of NGC title

New Delhi, December 12
SSP Chowrasia of Kolkata, despite hitting a double bogey on the par-3 16th hole, enhanced his lead to eight strokes at the end of the penultimate round of the NGC Open, the 10th leg of the Hero Honda Indian Golf Tour, at the Noida Golf Course on Friday.

Ashok Kumar, who was tied for the second position on Thursday, dropped a stroke but retained his position while his partner, Gagan Verma, who had led on the first day, shot a six-over 78 to slip down to tied fifth position, along with eight others. Sanjay Kumar played some steady golf to return a card of two-under par 70 for a total of three-under 216 to move up to the third position while Vivek Bhandari was fourth at level par 216.

Chowrasia made a birdie on the opening hole. He chipped in for successive birdies on the fourth and fifth holes and with another birdie on the eighth, he was four-under after his front nine. Sanjay Kumar surpassed the score of the leaders on the first hole by making an eagle.

Simarjeet, Manav lead India to title

Simarjeet Singh and Manav Das led India to a convincing three-stroke win over hosts Malaysia in the World Amateur Inter-Team Golf Championship at the Damai Golf and Country Club in Sarawak.

The Indian team comprising Simarjeet Singh, Manav Das, Amit Luthra and Vikrant Chopra tallied a winning aggregate of 226. OSR

Rameez, Shivam star in DPS victory

New Delhi, December 12
A dashing knock of 87, off 86 balls with three sixes and 13 boundaries, by Rameez Nemat and an all-round display by Shivam Sharma (44, 3x6, 1x4, 40b; 3 for 22) helped Delhi Public School (DPS), Mathura Road defeat Don Bosco School, Alak Nanda by 129 runs in the opening match of the Laxman Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Laxman School ground.

The tournament was inaugurated by Dronacharya coach Gurcharan Singh. Principal of Laxman School Mrs Usha Ram and Sports Authority of India cricket coach Maninder Singh were also present. Teams from Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan are also participating in the tournament.

Scores: DPS: 266 for 6 in 35 overs (Rameez Nemat 87, Varun Khanna 65, Shivam Sharma 44, Karan Grover 2 for 40, Vikram Mahajan 2 for 36).

Don Bosco School: 97 in 31.2 overs (Mukul 14, Shivam Sharma 3 for 22, Shahab Alam 2 for 10).
