The notification issued by the Punjab Government empowering the Special Court here for trying all cases of corruption committed anywhere in Punjab that are registered at the Mohali police station of the Vigilance Bureau, is likely to be major point for arguments in the case of disproportionate assets registered against the Badals that is to come up for hearing before the Special Judge tomorrow.

156-member panel for 2004 functions

The Punjab Government today constituted a 156-member state-level advisory committee for chalking out programmes in connection with the celebrations and observance of historical events in 2004. A notification was issued to set up this committee under the aegis of the Anandpur Sahib Foundation, constituted by the government in the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs.
Clash case probe team changed
Sangrur, December 12
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Sangrur, has changed the investigation team to hold further investigations into the case of the alleged clash between Dalits and zamidars of Hasanpur village, near Dhuri, over the possession of a disputed piece of “shamlat” land on November 11 in the village. In the clash, 20 persons from both sides were injured. Earlier, the investigations were being held by the Dhuri Police.
Admn to recover sangat darshan grants

After unearthing a scam in the utilisation of grants given to various social, government and religious organisations of the district from the Urban Development Fund and the Punjab Infrastructure Fund during sangat darshan programmes organised by the then Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, the district administration has decided to recover the money in the form of arrears of land revenue.

Punsup inspector denied bail

Additional Sessions Judge Jagmohan Singh Chawla here has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Punsup inspector Gurpritam Singh, against whom the Punjab Vigilance Bureau had registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and for misappropriating 28 quintals of Punsup paddy.

Herd registration ordinance sent for President’s nod

To control the increasing problem of stray cattle, the Punjab Government has passed an ordinance for implementing the Herd Registration Act. The ordinance has been sent to the President for approval. After the ordinance is implemented, it would become mandatory for all to get their cattle registered with the competent authorities. The Act would also be first of its kind in the country.

2 booked in dowry death case

Manjit Kaur, who got married a few months ago, was allegedly killed late last evening by her in-laws by giving her some poisonous substance. The police has registered a case under Sections 304-B, 34 of the IPC against Gurpal Singh (husband) and Dalbir Kaur (mother-in-law) at Rajasansi police station.
