Barnala
ARRESTED: The local police has arrested two proclaimed offenders. Disclosing this here on Friday, Dr Narinder Bhargav, said two proclaimed offenders, Raj Kumar of Barnala and Buta Singh Dhaula village had been sent to jail after being produced in the court.


CHANDIGARH

Programme: A two-day orientation programme on disaster management, organised by Kailash Bahl DAV Centenary Public School, Sector 7, concluded here on Friday. The programme organised under the aegis of the Central Board of Secondary Education catered specially to social science teachers. Ms Madhu Bahl, Principal, said around 120 teachers from schools in the city, Punjab and Haryana participated in the course. 

Meeting: The long pending demand of delayed promotions was highlighted at a meeting of the UT Teachers Welfare Association here on Friday. The association also demanded immediate filling of vacant posts in different cadres of teachers, including headmasters, principals and lecturers. 

CAMP CONCLUDES: Around 70 students and teachers donated blood at a camp organised during the valedictory function of a 10-day NSS camp at Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36, on Friday. A play was staged by NSS volunteers of the college. Cultural items were also presented during the function. Students of “Aasha” presented a skit prepared by NSS volunteers. Chief guest Yuvsatta Parmod Sharma distributed blankets among the inmates of different centers.

Freedom fighter dead
: Bhikam Chand Chaudhary (90), a freedom fighter, died in his native town of Sirsa on Friday. He was a close associate of former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal and is survived by five sons and a daughter. One of his sons, Mr R.S. Chaudhary, is a Haryana-cadre IAS officer.

Man held: The Punjab Police on Friday raided the Sector-4 house of Balbir Singh and arrested him on charges of bigamy. It is learnt that a police team from Sangrur had come here following a complaint lodged by the first wife of Balbir Singh. After informing the local police, the police team raided the house and arrested the man.

Protest: Over 100 safai karamcharis, employed by the four contractors hired by the Municipal Council, held a protest rally in various parts of the township on Friday. They were demanding payment of notified minimum wages by contractors and release of salaries by the seventh of each month. MC President Seema Chaudhary in a meetings with sanitation contractors asked them pay safai karamcharis as per minimum wages.

ENCROACHMENTS REMOVED: Deputy Commissioner Ms Deepti Umashankar on Thursday said encroachments on 533 acres of panchayat land in different villages of this district had been removed and action against more than 500 persons taken.

2 UNNATURAL DEATHS: Two unnatural, deaths, were reported in the last 24 hours in th district. An unidentified persons died in the civil hospital here on Thursday. The police has registered a case against unidentified persons. In another incident a persons committed suicide here on Wednesday night. According to the police Suresh Kumar (40) a resident of Talwandi Rukka village ended his life by throwing himself before a train on the Kaimri road level railway crossing here on Wednesday night.

Fatehabad
UNDERTRIAL DIES: A youth died on Wednesday night in the Hisar district jail. His kin suspect foul play in the death Baldev Singh (30) in judicial custody. He had fever on Tuesday and was admitted in the jails hospital. Later he was referred to general hospital where he died. Rajo Devi, wife of the deceased, suspected foul play in the death of her husband.
