Rewari, December 13
With spectacular achievements in academics, sports and other allied activities, Rao Lal Singh Public School, Sidhrawali, has now virtually emerged as a premier educational institution of South Haryana.

Established in April 1980 amid sylvan surroundings at Sidhrawali in memory of late Rao Lal Singh, a great visionary and educationist of Ahirwal, the school has carved out a niche for itself among residents of Rewari, Dharuhera, Pataudi, Taoru, Manesar, Gurgaon (all in Haryana), Delhi and Bhiwadi (a neighbouring industrial town of Alwar district of Rajashtan) during the past two decades.

The historic town of Sidhrawali, which has acquired added prominence owing to the august existence of Rao Lal Singh Public School and Rao Lal Singh Public College of Education, lies on National Highway 8 at a distance of 24 km from Rewari.

The school, which is an English medium residential co-educational public school and which is permanently affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), has undergone radical transformation under the stewardship of Major Ashok Yadav (retd) who has been at the helm of affairs as president of the school managing committee since 1996 while Mrs Shakun Mann, who was elevated to the post of Principal recently, has given a sophisticated thrust to the entire functioning of the school.

Talking to NCR Tribune, Major Ashok Yadav ,who is also the grandson of late Rao Lal Singh, said he was delighted to note that the school was now making rapid strides towards achieving its goal of imparting quality education to children. Simultaneously, they were now actively contemplating setting up a language laboratory which would enable all aspiring students to gain proficiency in English, French, German as was essential for would-be global citizens in letter and spirit. Besides, this would also widen their scope of employment in prestigious units which were being increasingly established by multinational companies here and elsewhere in the country.

Major Yadav further said education in well-established public schools in Ahirwal (south Haryana) also urgently needed thrust that could be instrumental in shaping talented youths of this region into prospective IAS, IPS and IFS incumbents.

In the same vein, furnishing details of excellence achieved by the school in academics, sports and other activities, Mrs Mann informed that apart from imparting quality education replete with maternal care and affection to children there was special emphasis on grooming of the girl child. Out of 1,250 students there were about 400 girls whose number was expected to register a hike during the next session. Simultaneously, all such educational facilities as were available to students in highly urbanised schools were also being enjoyed by students in this countryside school. Provision of excellent hostel facilities for both boys and girls was also proving an additional asset for the school which was fast gaining approbation from wards of parents residing in Delhi, Gurgaon and other neighbouring urban areas.

As regards brilliance in academics and sports, Mrs Mann informed that all 117 and 99 students in senior secondary and matriculation examinations of the CBSE, respectively, passed creditably in 2002-2003, registering a cent per cent pass percentage.

On the other hand, Ram Naresh, Jaswant, Sunil and Ashok, who secured gold medals in the state-level CBSE Athletic Competitions this year, were now participating in the national CBSE Athletic Championship currently going on at Mehsana in Gujarat.

Besides, it was also noteworthy that school kho-kho players represented Haryana twice at the national level in Delhi.

Simultaneously, the school had gained ascendancy in the domain of co-curricular activities as well. Organisation of competitions in creative writing, cartoon making, fancy dress, slogan writing, quiz contest and declamation had now become a regular feature of the school functioning.

After having successfully organised such state-level inter-school competitions on the school premises, the school authorities now also proposed holding inter-school national-level sports and other competitions.

Making specific mention of the valuable patronage being provided at all levels by Major Ashok Yadav, president, and his other colleagues in the school management, Mrs Mann asserted that the 45-member school staff, 28 of whom were postgraduates, were a dedicated lot and all of them had been working like a happy compact family.

The hefty inflow of students from Delhi, Gurgaon, Manesar and other neighbouring areas, where there was no dearth of good public schools, seems to suggest that Rao Lal Singh Public, Sidhrawali, is fast gaining the reputation of being ‘a school with a difference.”
