Preeti wins all-round trophy

Mandi Gobindgarh, December 14
The annual day of Om Parkash Bansal Modern School, Mandi Gobindgarh, concluded late last evening with a variety programme. Prizes to 140 students were distributed by Mr Sandeep Hans, SDM, Amloh.

The Cock House Shield went to Dr Radha Krishan House while Preeti Gautam won the all-round best trophy. The entire programme was compered by Class X students.

The variety show began with a shabad and Ganesh Vandana followed by folk songs and dances, group songs, classical dance and plays. Dr A. A. Siddiqui, Director-General of Punjab Police, was to be the chief guest on the occasion but due to some pre-occupation in Delhi he could not attend.

In his address Mr Hukam Chand Bansal, founder and chairman of the school, said the school was equipped with quality infrastructure, including a wide variety of teaching aids, besides mathematics and geography laboratories. Mr P.K. Dhar, Principal, said constant interaction with the staff on functional curriculum, innovative teaching had contributed to the growth of the school.

Pathak to head  attorneys’ body

Ludhiana, December 14
In the annual elections to the Punjab District Attorneys Association held here today, Mr Amar Ashok Pathak, District Attorney, Ludhiana, was unanimously elected president of state unit. The Joint Director Prosecution, Mr A.S.Rai, was made patron of the association.

The other office-bearers are: vice-president — Mr Sohan Singh Bhullar; general secretary — Mr Pardeep Mehta; joint secretary — Mr D.K.Garg; and executive members — Mr Subash Chander Gupta, Mr Vijay Markan, Mr P.S. Manesh, Mr Gurdial Singh, Mr R.L. Singla, Mr ShivDutt Sharma and Mr Sukcharan Singh.

Mr Pathak said it was resolved by the office-bearers to ask the government for the removal of stagnation amongst the law officers, grant of pay scales after 4-9-14 years of service along with non-practicing allowance. He said they would request the government not to create the posts of Joint Director at the district headquarters and not extend the present tenure of the Joint Director Prosecution in Ludhiana.

Lok Adalat organised

Samrala, December 14
The Sub-Divisional Legal Services Committee, Samrala, yesterday organised a Lok Adalat under the supervision of its Chairman, Ms Asha Kondal, Additional Civil Judge(Senior Division), Samrala, for providing relief to litigants. This was stated by Mr Arvind Markan, secretary of the committee.
Sixteen cases were disposed of out of the 25 placed before the Lok Adalat involving an amount of Rs 1,33,260.

Cultural fair on Dec 21

Amloh, December 14
The 13th annual cultural fair “Mehak Punjab Di”, dedicated to the late Punjabi singer Surjit Bindarakhia will be organised by the Punjabi Sabhyacharak Club, Amloh, at the Government Senior Secondary School ground here on December 21. The function will be inaugurated by Dr R.P. Singh Khurana, Director, SGGPS Institute of Para medical Teaching while Mr S.K. Ahluwalia , Deputy Commissioner, Fatehgarh Sahib will be the chief guest. This was stated by the club’s president, Mr Roshan Sood and its general secretary, Mr Balbir Singh Ghuman in a joint press note today.

A drama, directed by Master Megh Raj Rallah, will be presented by the Lok Kala Manch, Zira. Boby Sidhu, Devinder Singh Patialwi, Poonu Virk and Kulbir Kaulgarhia will present Punjabi songs.

Dr Gurmeet Singh Vaidwan’s Punjabi book, “Nain-Vi-Rang-De, Mun-Vi- Rung-De” and a Punjabi cassette of Boby Sidhu will be released on the occasion. Mr Jagtar Singh Khatra DPI (EE), Punjab will be honoured.
