Shabbir hattricks for Bangladesh school

New Delhi, December 14
A brilliant hattrick by Shabbir Mahmud helped Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothishthan, Dhaka, drub Sainik School, Imphal, 5-0 in the Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium on Sunday.

Bangladesh took the lead through Mazbabul Huque in the 11th minute when he dodged past the Sainik School custodian to put the ball in. Then Shabbir Mahmud took over to slot home a hattrick, scoring in the 24th, 30th and 42nd minutes. S K Alamgir Kabir completed the tally in the 57th minute.

The Bangladesh school will now take on Namchi Sports Hostel, Namchi (Sikkim) to decide the qualifier from Group VIII.

Rahul Yadav hits century for UK World

New Delhi, December 14
A sparkling century knock of 115, off 91 balls with eleven boundaries, by Rahul Yadav was the highlight of UK World’s 94-run victory against Vikaspuri Coaching Centre to enter the final of the Kehar Singh Memorial Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Vikaspuri ground.

Scores: UK World: 233 for 4 in 35 overs (Rahul Yadav 115, Rohan Tuteja 64, Tarun Yadav 33). Vikaspuri Coaching Centre: 139 all out in 27.3 overs (Mohd. Mohsin Khan 52, Himanshu Tyagi 40, Tarun Yadav 3 for 29, Senam Trikha 2 for 37, Sachin Aggarwal 2 for 18).

Shiv Kumar bowls Gemini to victory

A deadly spell of 4 for 19 by Shiv Kumar helped Gemini defeat Alpine by seven wickets in an A-II Division match of the DDCA League at the Yamuna Sports Complex ground.

Scores: Alpine Club: 154 all out in 40 overs (Anshuman Kambhoj 47, Samrat Walia 25, Shiv Kumar 4 for 19, Abhishek Vashisth 2 for 22). Gemini Club: 156 for 3 in 30 overs (Manhar Vats 40 n.o., Komal Singh 40, Saiyam Singh 36 n.o).

Bharti win in Eventus

Bharti Infotel defeated HUTCH by 69 runs and entered the semi-final of the third Eventus Cup Cricket Tournament at the Palam ground.

Scores: Bharti Infotel: 200 for 8 in 25 overs (Vishesh Khanna 38 n.o., Aashish Khanna 36, Brijesh Kumar 3 for 29). Hutch: 131 for 8 in 24 overs (Sumeet Sehgal 23, Rohit Huda 21 n.o., Sandeep Chawla 4 for 26, Makul Verma 2 for 22).

Orient Craft win

Orient Craft defeated Coca-Cola by nine wickets in the Luminous Cricket Tournament at the Pitampura DDA Sports Complex ground.

Close finish in Baroda Cup final

New Delhi, December 14
Teachers subdued Crompton Greaves 4-3 in the final of the Baroda Cup (12-goal) Polo Tournament at the Jaipur Polo ground on Sunday.

In a thrilling contest, Crompton Greaves forged ahead in the first chukker through David Bernal.

Preetendra pulled in the equaliser for Teachers in the second chukker.

Teachers consolidated their position in the third chukker when Navin Khanna made it 2-1 but they could not hold onto the lead for long as Angad Kalaan equalised for Crompton Greaves in the same chukker.

With the scores tied 2-2, going into the decisive chukker, the contest became intense with Navin Khanna regaining the lead for Teachers and Angad Kalaan neutralising for Crompton Greaves (3-3). However, Teachers clinched the match-winner when Lokendra Singh scored a spectacular goal with only five seconds left for the final hooter.

Earlier, Cavaliers trounced Mumbai 7 1/2 goals to 3 in the Baria Cup (four-goal) final. Maj A S Randhawa, who slammed home four goals for Cavaliers, was the hero of the final. Surya Bahadur (2) and Bhaskar Pathak scored the other goals. Lt. Col R S Ahluwalia (2) and Amrt Pasncicu scored the goals for the losers.

After a rest day on Monday, the ABN-Amro Bank Bhopal-Pataudi Cup (8-goal) tournament will be played at the Jaipur polo ground from Tuesday.

Armaan Ebrahim takes pole position

NEW DELHI: The babe of Indian motor sports Armaan Ebrahim put on display his stunning driving skills when he took pole position in the Asian Zone-Asian Kart Championship at Lankawi (Malaysia) in the qualifying race for the Rotax Junior Championship for 2-stroke karts. Armaan also took the P2 in the Junior Intercontinental A Class (100cc direct drive engine of the open class). In the Rotax Junior, Armaan was the quickest in testing, had a slight snag with his engine in the first qualifying session, but managed to overcome the problem in session two and bagged his first pole position in his recently started karting career. The Rotax max junior class in the Asian Zone is highly competitive with 14 countries and 20 drivers participating in the race. OSR
