Cong dissidents in touch with BJP, claims leader

Senior BJP leader and former minister, Mr Balramji Dass Tandon, today claimed that some Congress dissidents and MLAs were in touch with his party. Addressing a press conference here, Mr Tandon pointed out that his party was keeping all options open to form a government by supporting the splinter congress group of MLAs who have shown inclination to part ways with the Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh.

Villagers seek removal of garbage
Phagwara, December 14
Irate villagers of nearby Rawalpindi yesterday blocked vehicular traffic on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road and shouted slogans in protest against the stinking garbage dump there. However, the municipal contractor said three fields had been got on contract from former village Sarpanch Kulwant Singh for throwing garbage there.

Freedom fighter dies at 85
Batala, December 14
Freedom fighter and a member of the Indian National Army, Gian Singh, died at his native Ghuman village in Gurdaspur district early this morning. He was 85.

Govt directed to take action against doctor

Mr D.S. Malwai, Additional Sessions Judge, today passed a stricture against the doctor who conducted the medical examination of some injured persons (complainants) and allegedly gave a false medico-legal report in connection with the injuries suffered by them.

Woman raped, mother-in-law killed by burglars
Pathankot, December 14
A woman was raped, her mother-in-law murdered late last night at Gharota village. According to sources, three persons entered into the house of Parkasho Devi (70) at Gharota village and killed her with sharp-edged weapons.

9 booked in rape case
Abohar, December 14
Nine persons, including three women, have been booked in connection with an alleged case of rape at Surghuri village located on the Abohar-Ferozepore road, the police said this yesterday.

The city police has booked Jatinder Singh, son of Vaid Onkar Singh of Sector 37, Chandigarh, Daljit Singh, alias Jeona and his brother Inderjit Singh, alias Raja, sons of Mehar Singh of the Panjpeer locality here, under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC for allegedly duping 12 residents on the pretext of providing employment to them in Canada.

Undertrial escapes, three cops booked

Subegh Singh, who had been facing a judicial trial in a criminal case registered against him for his alleged involvement in the smuggling of narcotics, escaped from police custody while he was being brought back to the Central Jail, Bathinda, after a hearing at the court of Additional Sessions Judge here on Friday.

2 killed in road accident
