Abohar
POPPY HUSK SEIZED: The police seized 255 kg of poppy husk in two operations on Saturday. The Sadar Police at a naka near Bhagsar village on the Hanumangarh-Abohar road intercepted a scooter (PB22-8118) carrying 80 kg poppy husk. The police arrested Baljit Singh Babbi resident of Sohnewala village(Muktsar) under the NDPS Act. The Khuyiansarwer Police at another naka near Shergarh village intercepted an Ambassador (CH01F-1638) and seized 175 kg poppy husk. Karnail Singh of Sukhera Bodla village of Jalalabad subdivision, was arrested.

ONE HELD: Shera, resident of Pucca Seed Farm here, was arrested near Bhagu village on the Hanumangarh-Abohar road under the NDPS Act on Friday. Shera says smack was easily available at Sadulshehar.

LUDHIANA
INAUGURATED: An exclusive showroom for women at Ghumar Mandi was opened on Sunday. It was inaugurated by Mr Gurmeet Singh, secretary of ex-chief minister, Beant Singh and Ms Satnam Kaur.

YAJNA PLANNED: At a meeting held at Mahavir Mandir Trust, Gur Mandi, it was unanimously decided by the members that Shrimad Bhagwad mahayagya would be organised. It would be headed by Brahmchari Devdrat, a disciple of Anand Shri Vibhuti Sadguru Shankracharya of Swami Madhav Ashram.


CHANDIGARH

MIGRANTS’ INFLUX: The local unit of the SAD has criticised the “anti-Punjabi” attitude of the Chandigarh Administration and the Municipal Corporation by allowing migrant labourers from states to settle in the city. Mr G.S. Riar, President of the local unit of the party, said while Migrant Labourers had been provided with water and electricity connections, health and education facilities. Residents of Kishangarh village are living under the constant fear of their structures being demolished. 

PUBLIC GRIEVANCES: The President of the BJP unit has announced that office-bearers of the party will sit at the party office on fixed days to listen to the grievances of the residents. On every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday leaders would be available from 3 pm to 5 pm and on every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the leaders would be available from 10 am to 1 pm. On every Sunday, the state unit secretaries, Mr Krishan Mahajan and Mr Bhim Sen Aggarwal will be available from 10 am to 1 pm. 

NCP’s DEMAND: A deputation of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)met the Adviser to the Administrator to demand allotment of land to the NGOs for keeping stray cattle, rehabilitation of 2274 roadside workers, and reconstitution of sector-wise committee for the development of the sectors. 

ELECTED: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Rajiv Gandhi Social Welfare Association: Chairman — Mr Jasbir Singh Sandhu; President — Mr Parveen; vice-president — Mr Sandeep Kumar Pathania; general secretary — Mr Ashok Kumar; and treasurers Mr Krishan and Mr Ramesh Kumar.

JATHEDAR’S PLEA: The Jathedar of Akal Takht, Giani Joginder Singh, has stated that raised platforms could not be allowed in the halls where the Guru Granth Sahib had been kept. It was unethical and against the religious sentiments. The issue was taken up by the five high priests when a complaint was received against Gurdwara Sacha Chan in Phase 3 B 1 in Mohali. 

DEMANDED: Leaders of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Federation in a representation to the MP, Mr Pawan Bansal, have demanded that names of Mr Balraj Singh and Mrs Kamlesh be considered for the post of Mayor of the corporation, according to Mr Shanti Dass, vice-president of the federation. 

DENIED: Mr B.C. Sood, President of the Pracheen Shiv Shakti Sanatan Dharma Mandir Sabha, Sector 28-B, here on Sunday denied that the annual elections of the sabha had been conducted or a new set of office bearers had been elected. In a statement issued here, he said he had neither convened a meeting of the general body nor had any election taken place.

COMPLAINT REDRESSED: Local resident Shish Ram’s complaint that he had received a water supply bill for Rs 5436 for a non-existent water connection was dismissed by the Deputy Commissioner. The Executive Engineer was directed to waive the bill and proceed against the erring employee. This decision was taken at the meeting of district grievances Public Relations Committee here.

HONOURED: The Lion Club District 321-A2 Governor, Mr Anil Seth, has honoured Lion Dr MS Shah with a gold pin and a certificate for his services. mr JP Singh Vice District Governor, Mr Ajay Goel District cabinet secretary, Mr Joginder Mehta president Lions Club central, Mr Ravneet Parashar in charge media were also present on the occasion.

STONE LAID: The foundation stone for a multi-speciality hospital was laid by Mr Bal Krishen Sharma, Chairman, local Municipal Committee, on Saturday. Dr Rajesh Sharma, Director of the hospital, said the project of Rs 80 lakh would be completed within a year.

Chamba
OFFICE BEARERS: Mr Gajinder Vashist and Mr Ajay Kumar (Satpal group) have been elected president and general secretary, respectively, of the Chamba block unit of the Himachal Pradesh Non-Gazetted Employees Federation.
