Immigration racket kingpin had duped 24 youths

The US immigration racket busted by the Ludhiana Police with the arrest of a travel agent and self-styled doctor, Gurnam Singh, of Sahnewal has assumed wider proportions with the surfacing of as many as 24 fresh victims of the racket.

Stadium project raises stink
Ludhiana, December 19
Even though proceeding on the expected lines, the general house of the Municipal Corporation,at its meeting on December 10, also voted in favour of reviving the indoor stadium project and awarding the work to the lowest bidder in the tenders called almost four years ago after the Finance and Contracts Committee had mooted the proposal in March this year.

Joga Singh said that he happened to be the second generation reader of The Tribune. He was having a round of different stalls at the CII Ludhiana Fair, where The Tribune is the media sponsor.

Security guard killed in accident

Fog apparently claimed a life in the city today morning. A security guard at the DMC and Hospital died near Baddowal when a tractor-trailer hit him while he was going home on a bicycle.

Something for everyone — this appears to be the theme of the CII Ludhiana Fair 2003. A wide range of products and services in the fair at South City cater to all needs and pockets. From glossy potted plants to luxurious cars, bank loans to bicycles, it has generated a lot of interest with people thronging the fair throughout the day. Organisers expect the number of people to increase on Saturday and Sunday.

BKU rejects hike in support prices

The Bhartia Kisan Union (BKU), while terming the hike in minimum support prices of rabi crops announced by the Union Government as meagre and inadequate, has rejected the same and sought revision of prices on the basis of price index.

National integration camp begins tomorrow
Ludhiana, December 19
A week-long national integration camp being organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, will be held at the Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women from December 21.
