Sonepat, December 19
The Additional Sessions Judge of Sonepat, Mr J. S. Jangra, yesterday convicted six persons accused under Sections 148, 149 302 of IPC and the Indian Arms Act and sentenced them to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 2,000 each. According to a report, the accused were identified as Jagminder of Sant Nagar Kharkhauda, Rajesh, Raj Kumar, Sandeep, Lokesh, Narain Singh and Rakesh Kumar, all residents of Thana Kalan.

According to the prosecution story, the Kharkhauda police had registered the case against these accused on

November 29, 2001 on the complaint of Mr Rajbir, a resident of Thana Kalan village, alleging the murder of his brother, Dharampal, a gardner with the DDA.

The complainant had stated that he along with his brother, Mr Dharambir, heard gunfire shots near a canal minor of Pipli village while they were proceeding to their village on a tractor after purchasing petrol from a petrol pump along the Haryana-Delhi Auchandi border.

When they went to check the spot, they were shocked to see that the accused had assaulted their other brother Dharampal with ‘gandasi’ and other deadly weapons. Subsequently, when the alleged assailants saw the two brothers, they fled from the scene. Mr Dharampal, however, succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

The complainant also stated that his brother, Dharampal, used to come to Kharkhauda on his bicycle from Delhi every day after duty hours. The accused had been involved in a land dispute with the family of the victim, which was the main cause of the murder. On his complaint, the Kharkhauda police had arrested all the accused and sent their challan to the court.
