The Plastic Surgery Department of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) is all set to bring a galaxy of world renowned plastic surgeons, known for performing surgeries on Bollywood stars and models, here for a two-day international workshop-cum-conference on body sculpturing and implants in aesthetic plastic surgery from December 23.
At least 150 aesthetic plastic surgeons including experts from in USA, UAE, Israel, Kuwait besides Dr A.K. Gupta, India’s renowned plastic surgeon from Bombay Hospital, Mumbai will participate in the conference. All those who want to get their cosmetic surgery and body sculpturing including nose job, face lift, facial implant, breast implant, breast reduction, liposuction (extraction of extra fat from body), baggy eye lift, can get themselves registered with Dr Sanjeev Uppal, plastic surgeon, DMCH, who is also the Organising Secretary of the event, said a press release.
“The idea behind organising the conference is not only to benefit patients but also to bring experts under one roof for brain-storming sessions and exchange information on latest advances in related fields. One of the main features of the event will be a live operative session in which of these surgeries will be shown live to delegates on the big screen. Later, there will be a discussion and a question-answer session. Besides this, there will be video and free-paper sessions.,” said Dr Daljit Singh, Principal DMCH and, Chairman of the organising committee of the conference.
Dr Ashok Gupta, and Dr Rajinder Mittal, co-chairman and joint organising secretary of the workshop, respectively, said. There will be guest lectures on various topics. Dr Topaz Morris from Israel will talk about “Selection of implants in breast augmentation and reconstruction”. Dr Abdul Reda Lari from Kuwait will present paper on “Fillers and implants in facial rejuvenation”, and Dr Mohan Rangaswamy from UAE will throw light on “Liposuction”.
A speciality lecture on “Changing concepts in aesthetic plastic surgery— a 15 year follow up” will be delivered by Dr Ashok Gupta. Dr K.S. Bhangoo from the USA will talk on “Body sculpturing—an overview”. There will also be an open house on, “Lasers and facial enhancements”. Besides this, there will be free papers session and panel discussions too”.
Dr Uppal said, in the past few years, people had become more conscious about their bodies and went for plastic surgery not only to correct disfiguration caused by accidents but for the sake of looking beautiful as well.
He said a majority of people coming to hospital for cosmetic surgery were dissatisfied with the shape of their nose. They want to get it shaped like the nose of their favourite film star without bothering whether it would suit them. He said with the advancement in science, various software have been developed, which can offer different options to patients by showing desired face changes on a computer, so that the patient could make the right choice. He said the DMCH had already got required infrastructure and facilities for advanced surgeries and had been performing successfully.
