Cosmetic surgery conference from Dec 23

Ludhiana, December 20
The Plastic Surgery Department of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) is all set to bring a galaxy of world renowned plastic surgeons, known for performing surgeries on Bollywood stars and models, here for a two-day international workshop-cum-conference on body sculpturing and implants in aesthetic plastic surgery from December 23.

At least 150 aesthetic plastic surgeons including experts from in USA, UAE, Israel, Kuwait besides Dr A.K. Gupta, India’s renowned plastic surgeon from Bombay Hospital, Mumbai will participate in the conference. All those who want to get their cosmetic surgery and body sculpturing including nose job, face lift, facial implant, breast implant, breast reduction, liposuction (extraction of extra fat from body), baggy eye lift, can get themselves registered with Dr Sanjeev Uppal, plastic surgeon, DMCH, who is also the Organising Secretary of the event, said a press release.

“The idea behind organising the conference is not only to benefit patients but also to bring experts under one roof for brain-storming sessions and exchange information on latest advances in related fields. One of the main features of the event will be a live operative session in which of these surgeries will be shown live to delegates on the big screen. Later, there will be a discussion and a question-answer session. Besides this, there will be video and free-paper sessions.,” said Dr Daljit Singh, Principal DMCH and, Chairman of the organising committee of the conference.

Dr Ashok Gupta, and Dr Rajinder Mittal, co-chairman and joint organising secretary of the workshop, respectively, said. There will be guest lectures on various topics. Dr Topaz Morris from Israel will talk about “Selection of implants in breast augmentation and reconstruction”. Dr Abdul Reda Lari from Kuwait will present paper on “Fillers and implants in facial rejuvenation”, and Dr Mohan Rangaswamy from UAE will throw light on “Liposuction”.

A speciality lecture on “Changing concepts in aesthetic plastic surgery— a 15 year follow up” will be delivered by Dr Ashok Gupta. Dr K.S. Bhangoo from the USA will talk on “Body sculpturing—an overview”. There will also be an open house on, “Lasers and facial enhancements”. Besides this, there will be free papers session and panel discussions too”.

Dr Uppal said, in the past few years, people had become more conscious about their bodies and went for plastic surgery not only to correct disfiguration caused by accidents but for the sake of looking beautiful as well.

He said a majority of people coming to hospital for cosmetic surgery were dissatisfied with the shape of their nose. They want to get it shaped like the nose of their favourite film star without bothering whether it would suit them. He said with the advancement in science, various software have been developed, which can offer different options to patients by showing desired face changes on a computer, so that the patient could make the right choice. He said the DMCH had already got required infrastructure and facilities for advanced surgeries and had been performing successfully.

IMA meeting today

The district unit of Indian Medical Association has called a meeting of its members to-morrow at IMA House, BRS Nagar. The meeting has been called to review the preparations being made in the wake of the visit of the DGP Dr. A.A. Siddiqui.

Dr Gursharan Singh, President, IMA ,Ludhiana, said the other agenda include co-operation of IMA in government sponsored projects of tuberculosis eradication under DOTS and RNTPC schemes. Dr. Updesh Singh Sidhu, First doctorate ( D.M.) of Chest Diseases in Punjab has been nominated Chairman from the IMA side to appoint different centres under DOTS programme. Dr. Updesh Singh will guide various members of IMA about these projects, said Dr Gursharan.

Dr. Gursharan Singh said that on behalf of IMA, he had promised to the Health Secretary at the Centre to cooperate with the district administration to make it very successful.

Mr. A.S. Namdhari, Senior Divisional Manager of National Insurance will deliver a lecture on ‘ 'Professional Indemnity of Doctors’ The doctors will be given knowledge about the various insurance plans benefiting the doctors.

President of the Punjab Medical Council (PMC), which was lying defunct for the last 28 years, will be honoured by the general house of the IMA Ludhiana.

3-wkt win for CP Ed XI

Ludhiana, December 20
Despite a blistering innings of 42 runs by Prof Sodhi and 26 runs off just 10 deliveries by Prabhdeep, Combined XI lost by three wickets against CP Ed. XI in the final of the Inter-Class Cricket Tournament organised by the Gujjarwala Guru Nanak Institute of Vocational Studies, Civil Lines, here today.

Batting first after winning the toss, Combined XI made 162 for 7 in their stipulated 25 overs. Prof Sodhi hammered 42 off 36 balls, while Prabhdeep made a quick-fire 26. For CP Ed. XI, Jaswinder was the pick of bowlers capturing four wickets for 34 runs.

Thanks to some sensible batting by Maninder, who made 52 runs and Vishal Chhabra’s 26, CP Ed. XI achieved the target in the last over losing 7 wickets.

Prof Manjit Singh Chhabra, co-ordinator, GGNIVS, welcomed the chief guest. Mr Ashok Arora, managing director, Kipps Hotels, distributed the prizes among the participants. While expressing gratitude towards the dignitaries present on the occasion, Mr Kuldeep Singh, director of the institute, listed the achievements of the GGNIVS. Maninder Singh and Vishal Chhabra of CP Ed. XI were declared player of the match and best player of the tournament, respectively.

Brief scores: Combined XI — 162 for 7 in 25 overs (Prabhdeep 26, Prof Sodhi 42, Gaurav 17; Jaswinder 4 for 34 and Vishal 1 for 16).

Sports fest from Dec 23

Ludhiana, December 20
The All Open Kabaddi Cup will be the main attraction of this year's annual sports festival of the Gujjarwal village to be held at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium from December 23 to 25. According to Mr Pavitter Singh Grewal, chairman, Amarjit Grewal Club, a meeting of the club was conducted here to take stock of the preparations being made for the successful conduct of the festival.

Other games to be organised during festival would be bullock cart races, dog races, basketball, football, athletics besides some rare feats by the ruralities. Mr Pritpal Singh Grewal, president of the organising club said in the kabaddi (open), around 16 teams would participate while 12 outfits would take part in the football championship.

Mr Anurag Verma, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, will inaugurate the festival on while Mr Kewal Singh Dhillon, Managing Director, Pepsi, will preside over the opening function. Mr Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers and President, Punjab Olympic Association, would the chief guest on the concluding day.
