Revellers await hotels’ New Year bonanza

Getting prepared for the New Year Eve celebrations.

The plans are yet to be finalised. Disc jockeys from Delhi or Mumbai, open-air parties with bonfires lighting the night sky or bashes in air-conditioned halls — the hoteliers are still to decide. But the telephones are already ringing in hotels with people from all over the region eager to know the details of programmes.

“Even though New Year Eve is still five days away, we have started receiving calls from businessmen from different cities in the region,” says a manager of a Sector 35 hotel. “They not only wish to know the details, including charges for couple, but even wish to make reservations for the gala event.”

Giving details, the manager asserts, "They are even promising to send us the advance required for making reservations through their associates in Chandigarh, even through cheques sent by courier.” Mr Yogesh Gupta, working with another hotel, says, “Most of the businessmen are calling us up from Bathinda, Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana, even Ambala, Hisar and Rewari.”

Explaining the trend, he says, “The celebrations in the city have always been elaborate unlike some other cities in the region.” This is not all. “You have disc jockeys mixing music, enabling you to dance your way into the New Year. And then there are cool invigorating drinks for you to savour,” Mr Gupta asserts. “If nothing else, you can park your vehicle, switch on the stereo and cut your foot loose. That is the reason why Chandigarh has always been a favourite destination for revellers,” he adds. — OC

It’s my life
Small-town girl with big dreams

Life is a mixture of mystery and emotions, but I think where there is a will there is a way.

Hi, this is Charu. I am girl of a small town, Kaithal, with big dreams. I did my schooling from there. My father is a businessman and mother is a home maker.

Ever since my childhood I have been very ambitious. I always wanted to be something different. But it was a big step for me to stay away from home. I was determined. So I joined a one-year NIFD diploma at Ambala. There I came to know that this was the only field I had always wanted to be in. Then I did B.Sc in advertisements. I cleared my interview and now I am here.

NIFD has really brought a big change in my life. I have become more confident and now I am ready to face every challenge in life. It has also enhanced my creative skills. Now I am very sure that after completing this course I will reach somewhere. I want to be a top designer like Manish Malhotra and others.

As told to ASP
