Flesh trade racket busted, six held

Ludhiana, December 26
The local police busted a major flesh-trade racket last night in Sector-32 and then withstood strong pressure of some influential politicians, including some Congress leaders and industrialists, to book the accused under the Immoral Trafficking Act.

2 held for passport fraud
Khanna, December 26
The Khanna police has arrested two persons on the charges of getting a passport made by slowing fake documents. According to information Gurminder Singh, son of Jagjit Singh, a resident of Jatana Neevan village had gone to Cyprus for study by using his original passport in July 2001.

Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, an NGO, has launched an ambitious plan and elaborate programme to celebrate the fourth centenary of installation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. In this connection, the date of entry for Sehaj Path Competition has been extended to January 31, 2004.

Four booked on abduction charge

On the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Focal Point police yesterday registered a case under Sections 365 and 34 of the IPC on the statement of Mr Inderjeet Kapur, a resident of Chaudhary Colony in Moti Nagar, against Jaswant Singh, a resident of Ghal Kalan village near Moga, Vikramjit Singh, alias Vicky, another resident of the same village, Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Chakki Wali Gali, Moga, and Arvind Sharma.

Industry seeks cheaper credit for SSIs

The Federation of Tiny and Small Industries of India (FTSII), while welcoming the announcement made by Mr C.P. Thakur, Union Minister for SSI sector, to the effect that lending rate for tiny and small scale sector would be brought at par with prime lending rate of bankers from January 2004, has pleaded for a still lower rate of interest to sustain the economic viability of the small industrial units.

Students take out rally
Ludhiana, December 26
On the sixth day of the National Integration Camp being held at Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women Ludhiana, today students took out a rally against social evils like dowry and drug addiction. The rally was flagged off by city Mayor Nahar Singh Gill. It started two hours behind schedule as Mr Gill could not make it in time.
The students went from Domoria Bridge , Kailash cinema, Old DMC Hospital, College Road, Ghumar Mandi, Aarti Chowk, Durga Mata Mandir, Stadium Road, Fountain Chowk, Domoria Bridge and back to the college.

Annual sports meet at BVM School begins

With admission time for Nursery, LKG and UKG classes close at hand, the anxious parents are worried as no one knows what criteria is employed by the various schools for admission. Is it money, influence or whims of the school authorities? The president of the Ludhiana Action Committee, Mr Rakesh Verma and the secretary general, Mr Kimti Rawal, have sent a telegram to Mr Anurag Verma, Deputy Commissioner, requesting him to fix a criteria for admission.
