10-day NSS camp begins

Ludhiana, December 26
“Students must set their goals high and should learn and practice good deeds for the welfare of society and set a mission for the service of the nation,” said Mr Anurag Verma, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, while inaugurating inter-school 10-day NSS camp at Government Senior Secondary School, Thareeke, here today.

About 200 students are participating in the camp and are learning the ethics of service to the community and to the nation. Students would resort to social work and would attend lectures, on national building and community services by the experts said Mr Jagdish Singh Rahi, Assistant Director of the Youth Services Department. The department is organising the NSS camp in coordination with the Principal of the school, Ms Kamaljit Kaur, and panchayat of Thareeke. The SDM, Mr Kuldeep Singh, advised the students to do some good work for society for which they had been blessed by the elders. DEO Avinash Chander Sethi spoke about the importance of personality development and need of the NSS in education system.

Students take out rally

Ludhiana, December 26
On the sixth day of the National Integration Camp being held at Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women Ludhiana, today students took out a rally against social evils like dowry and drug addiction. The rally was flagged off by city Mayor Nahar Singh Gill. It started two hours behind schedule as Mr Gill could not make it in time.

The students went from Domoria Bridge , Kailash cinema, Old DMC Hospital, College Road, Ghumar Mandi, Aarti Chowk, Durga Mata Mandir, Stadium Road, Fountain Chowk, Domoria Bridge and back to the college. Apart from campers from different states, students of the local D.D Jain College, Guru Nanak Girls College, Ramgarhia College and Government College also participated in the rally.

The campers visited Sukhchen Ana Sahib Kapurthala, Jalandhar City Dera Ilias and Amritsar as part of 'sadbhavna yatra’ yesterday.

At the Golden Temple representative of SGPC Bibi Kiranjot Kaur welcomed all campers and delivered a lecture on Sikh history and greatness of the Golden Temple. She presented mementos to programme officers of various states. At Jallianwala Bagh campers paid tributes to martyrs. They also visited Wagah border.
