National School Games
Delhi down Himachal Pradesh

New Delhi, December 26
Delhi downed Himachal Pradesh by a huge margin of 57-22 points in the under-19 girls basketball event of the National School Games at the Chhatrasal Stadium on Friday. Raspreet scored 22 points and Priyanka basketed 10 points for Delhi.

In other matches, Rajasthan defeated Gujarat 54-41, NVS defeated Orissa 27-18, Madhya Pradesh beat Uttranchal 50-23 and Kerala beat Uttranchal 63-13.

In under-19 boys basketball, Kerala defeated Gujarat 63-55 and then got the better of Uttar Pradesh at 52-11 and Jammu and Kashmir 43-19, Rajasthan beat Jammu and Kashmir 59-23 and Orissa beat NVS 53-23.

Delhi defeated Himachal Pradesh 22-15 in under-19 boys handball. In other matches, Uttar Pradesh defeated Madhya Pradesh, Haryana beat NVS 33-12 and Chandigarh beat Jammu and Kashmir 36-20.

In under-14 girls handball, Haryana beat NVS 16-6 and Chhatisgarh beat Jammu and Kashmir 13-5.

In judo for under-17 boys, Avdesh Kumar Yadav of UP took the first position, and he was followed by Deepankar Dass of Tripura, Rahul of Madhya Pradesh and Vijay of Chandigarh. In the under-19 section (40kg), Vishal Awana topped, with Kalyan Singh of UP and Ajay Kafoolai of MP taking the second and third position respectively. In the 45kg, Vijay Kumar Meena of Delhi won the first position, followed by Lokesh of MP and Mithun Mag of Tripura and Ritesh Kumar of Uttar Pradesh.

In lawn tennis for boys under-19, Delhi beat Rajasthan 2-0 and Chandigarh beat Gujarat 2-0.

In the girls section, Chandigarh defeated MP 2-0.

Delhi beat Goa 4-0 and annexed the gold medal in chess for under-14 girls. Delhi beat Goa 7-1 in boys under-19 baseball contest while Delhi defeated Goa 10-0 in the girls section.

Puneet, Sawan bowl Delhi to victory

Devastating bowling displays by Puneet Anand (4 for 7) and Sawan Saini (3 for 16) helped Delhi defeat Karnataka by seven wickets and entered the quarter-final of the Vinoo Mankad Under-16 Cricket Tournament at the Bharat Nagar ground.

Scores: Karnataka: 91 all out in 33.5 overs (Jayanth 21, Tanu Kumar 22, Puneet Anand 4 for 7, Sawan Saini 3 for 16).

Delhi: 92 for 3 in 25.1 overs (Rajeev Sharma 33 n o, Rahul Yadav 27 n o, Prathiv Sekhar 2 for 18).

Delhi Club beat Rehman

Delhi Club defeated Rehman Club by two wickets in an A-I Division match of the DDCA League at the Yamuna Sports Complex ground.

Scores: Rehman: 158 for 9 in 35 overs (Shahzeb Naqvi 36, Mohd Furkan 40, Adnan Ali 28, Vipin Sharma 2 for 29, Jitender Choudhary 2 for 31, Manoj Sharma 2 for 36).

Delhi Club: 159 for 8 in 39.2 overs (Hemant Kumar 44 n o, Amresh Pradhan 30, Mehbood Alam 3 for 36, Haider Ali 2 for 20).

Bhagat Singh College win

Shaheed Bhagat Singh College defeated Satyawati by eight wickets in the Inter-College Cricket Tournament at the Bhagat Singh College ground.

Scores: Satyawati: 131 all out in 34 overs (Rahul Puri 41, Harshendu 3 for 19, Kunal Choudhary 3 for 20, Anish 3 for 40).

Shaheed Bhagat Singh College: 135 for 2 in 16 overs (Gagan Sagar 60 n o, Anis 47, Naveen Bharara 2 for 31).

Atwal, Chowrasia are Hero Honda golfers 
of the month

History maker Arjun Atwal and Shiv Shankar Prasad Chowrasia - the red-hot youngster on the Indian PGA Tour, both hailing from Kolkata, have been declared the Hero Honda Golfers of the month for their outstanding achievements in November and December respectively.

Atwal, who became the first Indian quality for the US PGA Tour and was also crowned the NO 1 golfer on the Asian PGA Tour for winning the 2003 Order of Merit, winning the $300,000 Hero Honda Masters and becoming the first player on the Asian PGA Tour to cross the million-dollar mark in career earnings.

The 30-year-old would have bagged the award for December as well but the three-member panel decided to give it to his citymate SP Chowrasia. The 25-year-old Chowrasia sizzled the Hero Honda Golf Tour in December winning both the Noida Open and the Rs 15 lakh Tata Open in Jamshedpur. With the back to back victories, he climbed up to NO 2 in the merit list.

“If Atwal is presently the superior of Indian golf, Chowrasia has the potential of becoming a big star in the future. At Hero Honda Motors Ltd, we recognise excellence and born Atwal and Chowrasia were brilliant in their own platforms,” said Mr Pawan Munjal, Managing Director, Hero Honda Motors Ltd, the umbrella sponsors of the Indian PGA Tour.

The award contains a recognition plaque, a pack of Titelist Pro-VIX balls and gift vouchers from adidas.

Mayank Sidana slams century

A brilliant century by Mayank Sidana and deadly bowling by Manan Sharma (3 for 47) helped Sonnet Club defeat Hans Raj Model School by nine runs in the inaugural match of the fourth Shakuntala Devi Dogra Memorial Under-19 Cricket Tournament at the Sumit Dogra Academy ground.

Sports Authority of India cricket coach Sunita Sharma inaugurated the tournament.

Scores: Sonnet: 246 for 8 in 40 overs (Mayank Sidana 107, Harish Kumar 38, Rahul Deewan 24, Sahil Arora 4 for 60).

Hansraj Model School: 237 for 9 in 40 overs (Manu Sharma 58, Kartik Bhatia 47, Ankur Garg 34, Manan Sharma 3 for 47, Naman Sharma 3 for 49).

Negi shares lead with Sandeep

Parimarjan Negi of Delhi put it across Archit Mokshi of Maharashtra to remain in joint lead along with Y Sandeep of Andhra Pradesh after the conclusion of the sixth round of the National Under-11 Chess Championship for boys at the Bapu Samaj Sewa Kendra at Panjkuian Road.

Both Parimarjan and Sandeep have 5.5 points apiece and are followed by a pack of six players, including S. P. Sethuraman, on five points each. In the girls championship, Bhakti Kulkarni of Goa ended the dream run of D Tejasri.

Kulkarni is now in a four-way lead, along with S. V. Sathya Priya of Tamilnadu, G Madanasri of Andhra and Devangi Patankar of Maharashtra.
