Foggy weather continues

Chandigarh, December 26
Normal life, including rail, road and air traffic, was today disrupted in Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab due to thick fog which engulfed the region, reportes here said.

Railway sources here said the majority of the trains in the region were running behind schedule by several hours due to restrictions on speed while traffic on various national and state highways moved at a slow speed following fog in the region.

The Delhi-Chandigarh Shatabdi Express, Nizamudin-Kalka Himalayan Queen, Lucknow-Chandigarh Sadbhavna Express, Bhiwani-Kalka Ekta Express, Howrah-Kalka Mail and Jodhpur-Chandigarh Express were among the trains which arrived here late, the railway sources said.

A report from Sonepat said a number of daily commuters travelling between Panipat and Delhi were stranded at different railway stations in the region due to late running of express and suburban trains on the Delhi-Kalka, Amritsar and Jammu sections due to fog.

Flights from Mumbai and Delhi had been cancelled by the Indian Airlines and Jet Airways till Sunday due to poor visibility, airline sources said. — PTI
