Children hone drama skills at workshop

The month-long workshop organised by the local Art Theatre concluded on June 30. Students were taught how to act depicting mannerism, how to show emotions using body language, how to modulate voice, etc.

The workshop was conducted by dramatist and playwright H.S. Randhawa. Dances, choreography and group and solo songs were part of the workshop.

The function held at Punjabi Bhavan was organised in collaboration with the Punjabi Sahit Akademi and ESI Colony Welfare Association. Dr Surjit Patar, president of the Punjabi Sahit Akademi, presided over the function.

A play, "Rihaee", written by Pakistani writer Shahid Nadeem was staged on their occasion. Neeraj, Shewta, Jatinder, Ravinet acted well. They were able to bring out the pathos of women in jail. A skit, "Khedan", directed by Jagdish depicted the influence of illegal activities of politicians on children.

Children also presented Gurdas Mann's song "Mein Dharti Punjab Di" with patrioric fervour. Dr Hardial Singh was the guest of honour while the special guest was Mr Jaswinder Singh Dhillion.

Teenagers take to the ramp

Teenagers walked on the floor like expert models after getting training for only 15 days. They got training at the elegance and confidence, modelling, and personality workshop conducted by Ms Manmeet Sodhia of Ivann Institute of Fashion Technology. “The first day they came to attend the workshop they were chewing gum, using their mobiles and were undisciplined. But after some serious talk there was a remarkable change as they really concentrated on personality development.” At a small function held at Satluj Cub this morning small girls and boys showed poise and confidence.

A workshop, Masti, was organised for the whole month at the Satluj Club and concluded here today.

The cultural secretary of the club, Mr Sanjeev Dhanda, had taken the initiative to start workshops in different disciplines like cooking, theatre workshop, western dance, calligraphy, vocal and instrumental music, literary events, modelling, and DJ training by experts. Nearly 600 students took benefit of workshops.

There were five fashion shows of 4-5 minutes’ duration. Among the young girls Ashita was placed first and Bhavleen second.

Among the boys, Shivam was first, Shivanshu second and a special prize was given to Mohit. In the teenagers group, one round was for the girls dressed in ethnic dresses and other was in trendy dresses. In the fashion show of girls wearing traditional clothes Ronika and Roopneet were placed first and second, respectively, while in trendy clothes round Sahika was first, Navrattan second and Muskan third. The trendy outfits worn by Navneet and Ferry also won them a certificate each.

Among the older boys, Ali won a special prize, while Rohit, Harkunwar and Randeep were placed first, second and third. The fashion show was followed by a musical performance on casinos by some students.

Colourful show by students

A summer camp concluded at Rajeshwari Kala Mandir here on Thursday. The camp was inaugurated on May 24.
A function was held on the school premises on the occasion. An art exhibition, various competitions and stage performances were held. In the exhibition, works in fabric designing, canvas painting, glass painting, pot decoration, candle making, gift wrapping were exhibited. In the art competition, Tarandeep was adjudged the best artist.

Earlier, the function started with Saraswati Vandana. It was followed by songs and dance performances by kids of different age groups. a skating show was also held. The guest of honour gave away certificates to all participants.

PGDCA results: The Department of Computer Science of the Devki Devi Jain Institute of Vocational Studies for Women (affiliated with GND University) has produced 100 per cent results in the PGDCA course during the session 2003-04. Ninety per cent students have scored more than 70 per cent marks.

Ms Kamal Arora stood first in the institute by securing 82 per cent marks. She is among the top five students of the university. Ruchi Singh secured 80 per cent marks and Neelam secured 79 per cent marks and stood second and third, respectively. Mr Narinder Kumar Jain, president of the institute, and Dr Prem Singla, Principal, congratulated the staff and students for the achievement.
