Crash course for MBA/MCA aspirants

Ludhiana, July 5
A free crash course for MBA and MCA aspirants commenced at the Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GNIMT) here today. During the 10-day course, more than 30 students would be imparted coaching on Management Entrance Test (MET) for MBA and MCA, to be held by Punjabi University, Patiala on July 18.

According to Dr A.S. Bansal, two such courses had already been completed successfully. The first was held from May 24 to June 12 and the second from June 14 to July 3, in which 45 and 40 students, respectively, participated.

Playway opened: Gur Kirpa Day Care Centre has opened a playway (pre-nursery and nursery school) for children at Malhaar Cinema Road here. According to Ms Gurpreet Kaur, Principal, the playway would prepare children for interviews to prestigious schools by focussing on developing self-confidence among children.

NSS camp: A 10-days NSS camp was held by volunteers of the Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd here. Dr Jaspal Kaur Brar, Principal, ask the volunteers to realise their responsibility towards society. The programme officers, Ms Nirmal Kaur and Ms Sumanjeet Kaur, asked the students to take to social service. The camp provided practical training in shaping personality and attaining knowledge.

A special guest, Dr Alka Kapoor, delivered talks on exemplary courage shown by women. She described as to how the modern woman was emerging out of her cocoon.

A rally was conducted on drug menace being faced by villagers. The volunteers were motivated to educate the illiterate and to make them better citizens. They also participated in activities like cleanliness of surrounding villages, tree plantation and paper-reading contest.

Different methods of food preservation and home nursing were also explained to them. Dr M.S. Bains, coordinator, NSS, Panjab University, Chandigarh, addressed the volunteers on the concluding day asking them to achieve success through hard work, sincerity and dedication.

Children’s club launched: A novel and innovative children’s club has been started by Chanda Mama Play School and Activity Centre. The club is aimed at bridging the gap between academic and practical skills.

Giving details of the project, Ms Harpreet Kaur Gill, Principal, claimed that it would train children in different skills to make them independent and fit for life. Parent education and empowerment was another focus of the club. She said the club would focus on personality development, performing arts like dance and drama, aerobics and yoga.

Sohian school students shine

Mandi Ahmedgarh: Rural schools in the area have fared better in matriculation examination conducted by Punjab School Education Board.

Mr Sikander Singh Sohi, Principal, Desh Bhagat High School, Sohian, claimed that Bhupinder Singh of his school secured the 11th position in the state and 2nd in Ludhiana District by securing 675 out of 750 marks.

Harmandeep Kaur of the same school stood 23rd in the state by securing 661 marks.

Mr Balwinder Grewal, Principal, Government Senior Secondary School, Dehlon, claimed that all students of this school (79 in arts stream and 19 in vocational courses) were declared passed. Results of the local Sanatan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Dayanand High School and Islamia High School were outstanding.
