"Piles is a distressing condition which affect at least one third of human population. Most of the patients are reluctant to take medical advice, resulting in development of complications of this disease."

These observations were made by Dr Gurdip Singh Sidhu, director of a Doraha-based Sidhu Hospital, at a two-day free piles check-up and treatment camp which concluded yesterday. The camp was inaugurated by Dr Harbans Singh Sidhu, managing director of the hospital. More than 200 patients were examined and 40 of them were operated upon.

Dr Sidhu explained that "stapler technique", popularly known as minimally invasive procedure for prolapse and hemorrhoids, was introduced for the first time in North at this hospital. In this technique the piles were stapled and removed from their root in just a few minutes. Now, with this latest technology, it was finally possible to deal with piles at the source.
