Sops for widows of defence personnel

Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav today announced concessions to the widows of defence personnel killed in action against the terrorists, haemophilia patients, unemployed youth and to the escort of deaf and dumb person.

The minister said to recognise the sacrifices by the defence personnel who were killed in action against the terrorists, the Railways will grant 75 per cent concession in the second and sleeper classes to the widows of such defence personnel. The concession was till now given to the widows of the policemen and para-military personnel killed in action against the terrorists and extremists.

Mr Yadav proposed rail concession to persons suffering with severe or moderate haemophilia when they travel for treatment or check-up in recognised hospitals. The concession will be 75 per cent in the second\sleeper\first\AC chair car and AC 3-tier classes. Escort, if any, travelling with the patient will also be eligible for the same concession.

Similarly, an escort with a person who is both deaf and dumb will also be given 50 per cent concession in the first, second and sleeper classes as well as in season-tickets. The concession was so far available only to the deaf and dump person.
