Project for cancer patients launched

The Global Cancer Concern India (GCCI), in collaboration with the local Mohan Dai Oswal Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, launched 'home care service project' in and around Ludhiana yesterday. Dr S. N. Tiwari, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, was the chief guest.

Dr Tiwari lauded the efforts of the GCCI and the Oswal Hospital in fighting the cancer.

Dr Satish Jain, Medical Director, Oswal Hospital, said nurses of the hospital had specially been trained by the GCCI in palliative care at New Delhi in association with Royal Marsden College of the U K. Brig B.V. Ahuja, Executive Director, GCCI, highlighted the activities taken up by organistion in the field of cancer. He said the project had simultaneously been launched at Amritsar, besides Ambala and Chandigarh.

Dr Praveen Kaur, Senior Consultant, Radiation oncology, talked on the importance of palliative care. Dr Veena Jain, Chief of Gynaecology Oncology, gave vote of thanks

Early diagnosis of breast cancer stressed

To educate the masses about the increasing number of breast cancer patients, a seminar was organised at the local Dewan Hospital today. Dr Narottam Dewan, Chief Surgeon of the hospital, addressing the seminar said the self-examination of breast was a routine procedure in the developed countries whereas owing to ignorance of this simple technique even among the highly educated women of our society, this life-hreatening malady could not be diagnosed early. Dr Dewan enumerated the conditions which increased the chances of the disease. Role of quackery in aggravating the disease was also highlighted.

"With a balanced and controlled diet a patient can be cured of certain ailments, this is claimed by Vinod Bhaiji who looks after the Sai Shri Leela Shah Arogaya Kendra at the Bapu Asa RamAshrama situated at Tibba village near Sahenwal.

Vinod Bhaiji says that nearly 40 ailments and diseases can be cured if the patients take a fixed diet containing certain ingredients while at the same time leave others for entire life. He claims that obesity can be overcome by excluding milk, ghee, curd, sweets, potatoes, rice, meat from the diet and on the other hand , a regular intake of honey, green vegetables, brinjal and black mustard oil. Also , an obese person should do not sleep during the day and have lesser hours of sleep at night too. Morning walk and fast are also essential to reduce obesity. Similarly, a person with high blood pressure should avoid the use of salt, curd, tomatoes and pickles. A cancer patient should never use meat, pickles, wine, cigarettes, stale food etc.

Along with this certain medicines prepared from various plant extracts, herbs and other medicinal shrubs can be taken for complete cure. Nearly 1,000 patients visit the arogaya Kendra every month and get cured with the medicines available with Vaid Vinod Bhaiji. The vaid visits the place on every Tuesday and Wednesday in the second and fourth week of every month. The medicines are manufactured at Surat Asharam and are reasonably priced . Besides a Gau Jharan Ars is also available in the asharm that is said to be a permanent cure for various ailments of intenstines and stomach. "This is prepared out of the urine of the cows. It is initially collected in a pot, boiled and he steam therein is used to prepare various medicines processed naturally”, said the sevadars of the ashram.

This hospital was established in t 2001 and since then it has been catering to the needs of the villagers as well as urban population around.

Artiste aiming to attend Olympics

After giving 15 performances in various European countries under the banner of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Mr. Rishi Joshi, a local folk artiste aspires to attend 2012 Olympics for which he has already been presented a blazer by the hosts of the said Olympics.

Mr Rishi feels indebted to the teachers of local Sanatan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, who promoted his talent. Presently a student of local Shanti Tara College, Rishi was picked up by an international folk dancer and coach, Mr. Ajay Sharma, at a stage performance and he was asked to be member of a 12-member delegation team led by Mr. Ashwani Sharma. The team performed around 15 shows in various institutes in countries like Holland, Poland, Turkey and Germany and returned recently.

Recapturing the moments during tour abroad, Mr. Rishi said, "Most exciting moment of our tour was when the Indian Ambassador to Germany and his counterpart jointly applauded our show at the Children Day function of the host country." Besides folk orchestra and bhangra the Europeans relished the performances of Banjara, Jindua, Jhumar, Malwai Giddha, Mirza, Malki Keema and Kirti Di Kulli.

More exciting was the experience when the organizers of 2012 Olympics recorded the events reportedly to be shown during the games.

Rishi has already performed for Lashkara channel and New Year celebrations by DD-Punjabi channel. Under the guidance of Tejwant Kittu, a renowned music director he has acted for video songs sung by Ravinder Grewal, Harjit Harman, Sardool Sikander, K.S. Makhan, Sukhwinder Singh, Noorie, Maqbool and Surjit Bindrakhiya.
