ABVP celebrates ‘vidyarthi divas’

The local unit of ABVP celebrated “vidyarthi divas” on the occasion of 50th anniversary of its foundation day at Panjab University, here today.

Addressing the gathering, the state unit Organisation Secretary of ABVP, Mr Subhash Sharma, said that the vidyarthi parishad was not a trade union but an organisation of the students and by the students and for the students.

Concluding his speech, Mr Subhash Sharma denied that the ABVP had links with political parties. We have no links with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as claimed by some of the students’ organisations and other political parties.

The ABVP has criticised the Gujarat Government for spreading communal riots and opposed the Chhattisgarh Government on the issue private university bill. This should be evidence enough that we are not working for them as it is being made out,” he said.

Prior to the commencement of the ceremony Saurabh Joshi, Joint Secretary of ABVP, welcomed the main speaker and students from various colleges and departments.

Dance competition for youngsters

A mega dance competition, “Taal 2004” was held at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18, on Tuesday. It was organised jointly by the Western Star group, the All-Art Cultural Association and the CITI Entertainment Network. Participants from the group of three to 25 years and dance groups from nearby areas, including Kharar, Mohali and Panchkula participated in the competition.

They danced to the tunes of Hindi, western, folk and classical songs. Attired in beautiful traditional and western dresses, they presented a delightful sight.

The Chunmun group gave a wonderful performance on a Punjabi number “Dil Sade Nal La Le Ni”. The Ishan dance group performed on remix of “Pardesi”. The Special Secretary, Government of Punjab, S. Mandeep was the chief guest.
